Airfares for Tet 2025 are high, some routes have doubled

According to a survey by the Civil Aviation Authority, up to now, airlines have complied well with regulations in pricing air tickets for Tet 2025. Accordingly, the highest ticket price is 3.7 million VND/ticket while according to regulations, the ticket price cannot exceed 4 million VND.

In fact, according to a survey by Dan Tri reporters, the ticket price including taxes and fees for economy class on January 21, 2025 (ie December 22, the year of the Dragon) on the route from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi of Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways is about 3.74 million VND. Vietjet Air has a price of nearly 3.1 million VND and Vietravel Airlines ranges from 2.9 to 3.4 million VND.

Meanwhile, in the opposite direction from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, the ticket prices announced by the airlines are significantly lower. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air have ticket prices of about 1-1.4 million VND, Bamboo Airways about 1.2 million VND and Vietravel Airlines about 850,000 VND.

Notably, for the flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa, Vietjet Air's ticket price is 3 million VND while Vietnam Airlines' is up to more than 3.7 million VND, double the current airfare.

In the opposite direction, Vietnam Airlines' ticket price is about 900,000 VND, Vietjet Air's is about 1 million VND after including taxes and fees.

Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon on the same day are around 2.5 million VND by Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways. Vietjet Air and Vietravel Airlines have tickets priced around 2.3 million VND.

In the opposite direction from Quy Nhon to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Airlines offers tickets for about 800,000 VND, Bamboo Airways and Vietjet Air record ticket prices of about 700,000 VND.

At the beginning of the holiday, ticket prices of airlines are fluctuating differently. Departure dates near the start of the holiday on January 25, 2025 (ie December 26, the year of the Dragon), on the flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vietnam Airlines tickets cost about 3.7 million VND/way.

Vietjet Air and Vietravel Airlines also recorded ticket prices of about 3.4-3.7 million VND/way, an increase of about 10-20% compared to the time before the holiday. On the other hand, the airlines still had ticket prices similar to the previous days.

At the end of the Tet holiday, higher ticket prices appeared on flights from local areas to Ho Chi Minh City. Surveying ticket prices on February 2, 2025 (ie January 5, At Ty year), on the route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, airlines had prices around 3.6-3.7 million VND.

On the flight from Vinh to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Airlines' ticket price is up to nearly 6 million VND, Vietjet Air's price is about 4.3 million VND. Meanwhile, on the return flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, Vietnam Airlines' ticket price ranges from 1.9-2.5 million VND, Vietjet Air's is about 1.2 million VND.

Flights from local areas back to Ho Chi Minh City are almost full.

The aviation industry is mobilizing all resources to serve passengers during Tet. This year, the 9-day Tet holiday is an opportunity for people to visit relatives and travel, so the demand for air travel is forecast to increase.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, up to now, the total number of seats provided on international and domestic flights from January 14 to February 12, 2025 has reached more than 7 million seats, an increase of more than 5% compared to this year's Tet holiday.

The number of domestic seats supplied reached more than 4.9 million, with an average of 165,000 seats/day, an increase of about 4.8% compared to the beginning of this year.

During the period before the holiday (January 2-28, 2025), the booking rate on flights from Ho Chi Minh City to most provinces and cities reached over 50%. The routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa, Vinh recorded a high booking rate, up to 90-100% on January 23-26, 2025.

Meanwhile, after the holiday, the booking rate for flights from local areas back to Ho Chi Minh City is high as workers return to the city to work.

During the final period of the holiday (February 1-7, 2025), the routes from Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Quy Nhon, Chu Lai, Dong Hoi, Buon Ma Thuot to Ho Chi Minh City have a booking rate of 90-100% on January 23-26, 2025.
