On April 5, Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital said that the patient (30 years old, model) broke his femur while playing pickleball 2 days ago.
After being transferred to the hospital, based on the results of the imaging diagnosis, the doctor determined that the patient had a fracture of the middle third of the left femur.
The emergency surgery was performed at 2 p.m. on April 4 by Dr. Nguyen Quoc Thang. This was a difficult surgery because the patient was 1m78 tall and had a vertical fracture down the left femur.

In addition, the superimposed fracture line is much shorter than 3cm, so the doctor must consider a small incision to avoid affecting aesthetics, but enough to fix the patient so that he can put his foot down after one day of surgery.
Patients want to return to sports as soon as possible, so the selection of bone fusion devices, the post-operative consultation and explanation process for patients, the training and recovery process require great care and difficulty.
During the surgery, the team had to transfuse 250ml of blood. As of this morning, the patient is awake, stable and ready to walk. He is expected to be discharged in the next few days. In this case, doctors predict that it will take at least 6 months for the patient to return to playing pickleball.
According to Dr. Vo Hoa Khanh, Head of Quality Management Department, Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital, to ensure safety, pickleball players should learn about the sport carefully before starting, and need a coach to guide them. They should not play according to trends because the risk of injury will seriously affect their health, psychology and require a long recovery time.
