On November 7, information from the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital (Quang Ninh) said that doctors at the hospital's Ophthalmology Department had just removed a 10 cm long worm from the eye of a female patient from Thuy Nguyen District (Hai Phong).

A few days ago, the female patient came to the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital with symptoms of eye pain, foreign body sensation, and blurred vision. After examination, the doctors discovered a worm in the patient's eye. Immediately after, the doctor carefully used a specialized tool and removed the worm.

According to Dr. Dang Thi Phuong, Department of Ophthalmology of the hospital, when worms stay in the eyes for a long time, they will cause inflammation, watery eyes, itching, making the patient's vision blurry and making it difficult to perform daily activities.

According to Dr. Phuong, the cause of parasitic worms can be from food, hands and feet coming into contact with larvae or can also be transmitted from dogs, cats... Therefore, to avoid parasitic worms in general, people need to eat cooked food, drink boiled water; clean hands; clean the surrounding living environment; deworm regularly...

Signs of parasitic infection that require hospital examination include prolonged blurred vision of unknown cause, recurring blurred vision, blurred vision without pain, no redness, gritty eyes, itchy eyes, blurred vision as if looking through fog, seeing many dark shadows (floaters), sometimes accompanied by systemic signs such as fatigue, itchy skin rash, allergic hives.

In addition, to detect whether you have a worm infection or not, you must do specialized tests to detect worm larvae. Therefore, when there are abnormal signs in the eyes, people need to go to reputable and specialized medical facilities for timely examination.
