In 2024, the work on overseas Vietnamese (OVs) of the Vietnam Fatherland Front achieved many positive results, affirming its important role in gathering and uniting the overseas Vietnamese community, contributing to the cause of national construction and development.
Mobilizing resources to participate in national development
As the center of the great national unity bloc, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has deployed and organized many practical activities to mobilize, gather and unite overseas Vietnamese in the great national unity bloc; increase contact to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese to make recommendations to the Party, State and National Assembly to ensure the legitimate and legal rights of overseas Vietnamese.
According to Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Hoang Cong Thuy, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee has proactively coordinated with socio-political organizations, mass organizations and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to effectively carry out information and propaganda work on the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and patriotic emulation movements and campaigns to contribute to socio-economic development, ensure national defense and security, and maintain the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland; promote the tradition of patriotism and the spirit of mutual love of Vietnamese people at home and abroad to support and help each other in times of difficulty, natural disasters, and misfortunes, and to help the poor.
In 2024, overseas Vietnamese have carried out many activities towards their homeland, making an important contribution to the country's construction and development. The amount of remittances sent home last year was estimated at 16 billion USD (according to the WB). Along with that, overseas Vietnamese continued to carry out volunteer activities towards their homeland such as participating in supporting the construction of solidarity houses for poor households in Dien Bien province and the Northwestern provinces, the Program to launch support for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide with the theme "Warm home for my compatriots" and patriotic emulation movements chaired by the Vietnam Fatherland Front. Responding to the call of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to support the northern provinces affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi), the overseas Vietnamese community actively donated and supported compatriots in the country with a total amount of more than 58 billion VND...
In 2024, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee will preside over many activities to meet and grasp the aspirations of overseas Vietnamese such as: coordinating with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs to organize receptions and meetings with outstanding overseas Vietnamese delegates on the occasion of their return to attend the "Spring in the Homeland" program, meeting with outstanding overseas Vietnamese delegates attending the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; sending delegations to attend or sending letters of greetings, congratulations, encouragement, and support for activities organized by overseas Vietnamese associations and delegations. In the program of the Overseas Vietnamese Association's working delegation, the Standing Committee spent time meeting and contacting the Vietnamese community in the host country; organizing receptions and working with overseas Vietnamese associations and delegations to greet and visit the Vietnam Fatherland Front to grasp the aspirations of the community. The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee regularly provides information on the domestic situation and the Front's working orientations to associations and overseas Vietnamese communities, and at the same time grasps the situation of the overseas Vietnamese community through Committee members and overseas Vietnamese associations. Through grasping and updating information, thoughts and aspirations of the overseas Vietnamese community, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee has recommended to the Party, the State, Party committees and authorities at all levels to have specific policies and solutions to intervene and coordinate to resolve difficulties and problems arising, meeting the legitimate aspirations of the majority of overseas Vietnamese.
Join hands to contribute ideas
To continue to do a good job of gathering and uniting overseas Vietnamese in 2025, Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy said that the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee will continue to deploy and seriously implement Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW of the Politburo, Conclusion No. 03-KL-DCT of the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and documents of the Party and State on work with overseas Vietnamese to all classes of people at home and abroad; Implement the Resolution of the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and a number of issues on the Charter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (amended and supplemented) on the action program to improve the effectiveness of people's foreign affairs activities and overseas Vietnamese work of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
On that basis, the Vietnam Fatherland Front focuses on mobilizing overseas Vietnamese, especially intellectuals, experts, and businessmen, to contribute ideas and suggestions to build and develop the country; mobilizing the overseas Vietnamese community to build and consolidate a united and strong community, helping each other in life, complying with the laws of the host country, preserving and promoting the cultural identity and fine traditions of the Vietnamese people, staying attached to the homeland, contributing to building and protecting the Fatherland.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front continues to coordinate with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to propose that the Government support the Overseas Vietnamese community to improve their legal status, stabilize their lives in the locality, and support the community in preserving the national cultural identity, focusing on innovating the teaching and learning of Vietnamese for overseas Vietnamese, especially the younger generation.
According to Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will have solutions to promote the role of members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front who are overseas Vietnamese in gathering and uniting the host community and the role of the Foreign Affairs and Overseas Vietnamese Advisory Council in advising, proposing, providing social feedback and monitoring policies on overseas Vietnamese. Maintain regular contact and information, update and share information on the domestic situation, activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front as well as the situation of overseas Vietnamese and association activities in the localities. In particular, promptly reward overseas Vietnamese collectives and individuals who have made many contributions to the community, actively responded to emulation movements and campaigns of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, contributing to the construction of the homeland and the country.
In 2025, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front will study and develop a pilot project to organize the National Great Unity Day in the overseas Vietnamese community (in places with conditions, in accordance with the regulations of the host country) to strengthen solidarity, cohesion, preserve and promote the fine cultural identity of the Vietnamese people, promote and introduce the historical traditions and spirit of great unity of the Vietnamese people.
