VPIM 2023 is the official annual international sporting event of Hanoi city, and is also a key sporting activity to celebrate the Capital Liberation Day on October 10, copyrighted and organized by Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank).
Nearly 11,000 athletes participate in VPBank Hanoi International Marathon (VPIM) 2023.
The event also aims to promote tourism, build and promote the image of Hanoi as beautiful, friendly and attractive to domestic and foreign tourists.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Ms. Pham Thi Nhung, Deputy General Director and Director of Partner Management and External Relations of VPBank shared: "With the commitment to put athletes at the center, the Organizing Committee (OC) of VPIM has strived to bring the best experiences to runners before, during and after the race.
At the same time, VPIM also spreads prosperity from each step to the community so that the footsteps do not stop at the finish line but also get closer to each situation and each disadvantaged life in society.
Over the years, VPBank has made great efforts to realize the mission "For a Prosperous Vietnam" through specific actions, of which organizing large-scale community runs is one of the proofs.
An international athlete is excited to compete at VPIM 2023.
As a non-profit race, all revenue from VPIM 2023 is invested in the quality of the race with a focus on runners, while contributing to charity and social security activities.
In particular, each athlete who registered to participate contributed 30,000 VND to the activities of the Loving Leaves program series (coordinated by VPBank and Vietnam Television) and the program to reduce infant mortality in Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries implemented by Newborns - a non-governmental organization from the UK.
At the Opening Ceremony of the race, the VPIM Organizing Committee donated a contribution equivalent to 300 million VND to two organizations.
VPIM 2023 includes 4 competition distances: 42km, 21km, 10km, 5km all starting from Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, with the running route standardized according to international standards by the Association of International Marathons (AIMS). Athletes can use the results of VPIM 2023 to register for major races in the Six Majors system.
Many athletes in unique costumes participate in the VPIM 2023 race.
True to the slogan "Hanoi Vibes", VPIM 2023 owns running routes imbued with the spirit of Hanoi. Starting from Hoan Kiem Lake, the heart of the capital, the VPIM 2023 course takes runners on mossy old street corners, through rows of trees with the scent of milk flowers, running along the windy lake and then crossing iconic bridges to admire a fresh and dynamic Hanoi.
The route features more than 30 famous landmarks of the capital along with the most typical streets, painting a picture of "passionate Hanoi" from ancient to modern, from quiet nightlife to bustling, clear dawn.
In particular, the 42km route of VPIM 2023 is the first route of a race in Hanoi to embrace the three most unique bridges in the capital: Nhat Tan Bridge - the largest cable-stayed steel bridge in Vietnam, Dong Tru Bridge - the first concrete-filled steel tube arch bridge in Vietnam and Long Bien Bridge - the first steel bridge across the Red River.

Expert Kim Vivian (AIMS International Marathon Association), who has been involved in running races in Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general for many years, shared: "The VPIM race at a distance of 42km will be extremely interesting and new in every aspect, from the concept of the race to the famous landmarks and beautiful scenery of Hanoi that are listed and the challenge for runners".
Besides the impressive route, one of the factors that affirms the scale and class of VPIM 2023 is the prize system consisting of 115 prizes with a total value of up to nearly 2 billion VND, of which the cash prize is up to nearly 800 million VND, considered one of the races with the largest cash prize ever.
In addition, runners also received many gifts in the racekit worth nearly 20 million, including 14 items from many famous brands such as: Anta, Mövenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc, TH True Juice, Salonship, LynkiD... along with many other benefits in medical care (Hong Ngoc General Hospital), health recovery (California Fitness & Yoga,) insurance (OPES) and transportation (Be Group).
The athlete was excited to receive the medal after completing the race.
In addition, 1,200 professionally trained volunteers and dozens of water stations along the running route have provided the best support for each athlete participating in VPIM 2023.
In the final results, Pham Tien San won the men's 42km race, and Leo Thi Tinh won the women's 42km race. The top spots in the 21km race belonged to Ha Van Nhat and Pham Thi Hue.
In the 10m distance, the first place for men was Le Van Thao, the first place for women was Khuat Phuong Anh. In the 5km distance, the first place for men was Tran Le Hoang and the first place for women was Nguyen Thi Thanh.
Previously, the first Mastercard Kids Run race, co-organized by VPBank and Mastercard, took place on the morning of October 7 at Hoan Kiem Lake area, attracting 500 young athletes aged 5-10 to participate.
The Mastercard Kids Run race is 600m long with 3 challenges to conquer: running over a ball pool, crossing tires and overcoming obstacles, giving young athletes the opportunity to experience the vibrant sports atmosphere, thereby nurturing their love for running.
Immediately after the end of the VPIM 2023 race, the Organizing Committee announced that it would open the registration portal to sell bibs for the 2024 season with many attractive incentives. Previously, VPBank and FPT Online Services Joint Stock Company (FPT Online) - the operator of the largest VnExpress Marathon series in Vietnam, also announced a strategic agreement on VPBank's partnership with the VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight for 5 years (2024 - 2028).
