Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of April 18, 2025

Experts say the global pepper market is facing challenges due to declining output in major producing countries such as Indonesia and India, and due to climate change, disease and rising input costs.

However, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) believes that from now until the end of the year, supply and demand will remain the most important factor. Whether the US imposes tariffs or not, the global market is still in short supply, which will support pepper prices to increase again in the medium and long term.

According to VPSA, Vietnam has certain advantages as Vietnamese pepper cannot compete with American farmers or businesses because the US cannot produce pepper due to unsuitable natural conditions.

Farmers in Dak Nong province harvest pepper

Pepper traders believe that pepper prices may continue to fluctuate within a moderate range as Vietnam enters the harvest season. Some slight downward adjustments may occur during the peak harvest period. However, this depends largely on the willingness of producers to sell, as good prices last year have significantly increased their ability to hold stocks.

If buyers start buying to secure supplies, prices could rise sharply. Once peak harvest is over, growers will likely continue to hold onto their stocks, waiting for higher prices.
