According to experts, domestic pepper prices are recovering strongly after a period of stagnation due to concerns about the reciprocal tax policy from the US. In addition, the rapidly increasing demand has breathed new life into the market, while creating conditions for businesses to renegotiate prices with previously signed contracts.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) informed that the demand for pepper imports has returned from many major markets such as the US, Europe, Asian countries, especially China.

In the domestic market, farmers and traders still maintain a hoarding mentality, selling only in limited quantities, contributing to the scarcity of supply.

According to records, in key areas such as Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai or Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the harvest has basically been completed. However, farmers are not in a hurry to sell because they have profits from other crops such as durian and coffee, leading to a limited amount of pepper brought to the market.

Information that pepper output this year is lower than last year has given prices more room to rise. Some forecasts suggest that if demand continues to increase strongly, domestic pepper prices could approach VND160,000/kg.

According to data from VPSA, in March 2025, Vietnam imported nearly 5,000 tons of pepper with a total value of nearly 29 million USD. Vietnam not only consumes raw materials domestically but also imports pepper from many other countries for processing and re-export.

Thanks to the development of processing technology, Vietnam's pepper export output often exceeds domestic output. This is evidence of the improving processing capacity, contributing to increasing the value of the pepper industry.

The US continues to be the leading market with a purchase volume of more than 72,000 tons in 2024, accounting for nearly 1/3 of Vietnam's total pepper export turnover.
