Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on April 30 that the Fatah and Hamas movements met in Beijing recently for "deep and frank dialogue on promoting internal Palestinian reconciliation," according to AFP.

"Representatives of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) recently visited Beijing. The two sides fully expressed their political will to achieve reconciliation through dialogue and consultation, discussed many specific issues and made positive progress," Lam said.
Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 after a tense standoff with Fatah, which maintains control of part of the West Bank through the Palestinian Authority (PA) led by President Mahmoud Abbas.
The two Palestinian forces agreed to continue the dialogue process with the vision of achieving Palestinian unity at an early date, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson. The two sides highly appreciated China's unwavering support for the Palestinian people's cause of restoring their legitimate national rights, Lin said, without specifying when the dialogue took place.
US Secretary of State says Hamas should accept 'extraordinarily generous' ceasefire deal from Israel
The news of the reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas comes amid Hamas' ongoing conflict with Israel in the Gaza Strip. China, which supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Chinese President Xi Jinping has also called for an international peace conference to resolve the conflict.
