Former French team doctor Fabrice Bryand said the usual time frame for recovery from a broken nose surgery is 10 days or longer depending on the case.
Kylian Mbappe could be sidelined for the remainder of France's EURO 2024 campaign after he was taken to hospital for surgery on a broken nose following a collision with an Austrian player.
In the final minutes of the opening match against Austria in the early morning of June 18, Mbappe encountered trouble after an "air combat" situation. In an attempt to jump high to head the ball, he collided very hard with the shoulder of Austrian center-back Danso.
This collision caused Mbappe to lie on the field in pain and bleed heavily from his nose. Mbappe was then forced to leave the field, giving way to Giroud.
According to preliminary medical assessments, Mbappe suffered a broken nose and required surgery, which was reportedly performed at Dusseldorf University Hospital.
Speaking to L'Equipe magazine, former French team doctor Fabrice Bryand said that the usual time frame needed to recover from a broken nose surgery is 10 days or longer depending on the case.
The 10-day time frame means Mbappe will miss the rest of the EURO 2024 group stage. If things get worse, EURO 2024 could be over for the Real Madrid club's new striker.
If that happens, it will be a huge loss for the French team. Mbappe played a key role in the only goal of the match against Austria, when he forced Maximilian Wober into his own net after his cross. The 25-year-old failed to score against Austria despite having two "deliciously good" chances.
In the next match, the French team will meet the Netherlands. They will end the group stage when they meet Poland on June 25./.
Striker Kylian Mbappe suffered a serious injury to his nose after a strong collision with defender Kevin Danso's shoulder during an aerial dispute in the 86th minute.
