Fmovies, the world's largest pirated movie distribution network, has just been successfully dismantled by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE).
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPA) rated Fmovies as the world's largest pirated movie website. |
On August 29, ACE said it had coordinated with authorities to shut down Fmovies and its affiliates. The US organization assessed this as the largest copyright-infringing streaming network in the world.
ACE said the network, which included various websites such as Bflixz, Movies7, Flixtorz and Myflixer, allegedly created "the world's largest pirated streaming operation", with more than 6.7 billion visits from January 2023 to June 2024.
According to ACE, they also shut down video hosting service provider Vidsrc.to and affiliated websites, which were operated by the same suspect.
Charles Rivkin, president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of Hollywood and chairman of ACE, called it "a great victory for casts, crews, writers, directors, studios and the creative community around the world."
ACE is an organization that represents dozens of film, news, and entertainment production companies. The alliance often works with domestic and international law enforcement agencies to combat online entertainment piracy. Its members include BBC Studios, Televisa, Canal + Groupe, MBC Group, and RTL; Netflix, Apple TV+, Amazon, and The Walt Disney Studios.
Fmovies has been a target of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA), a unit of ACE, for some time. The Office of the US Trade Representative also included the site in its annual “Assessing Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy” report, along with sites like ThePirateBay, Sci-Hub, and 1337X. According to data aggregator SimilarWeb, Fmoviesz.to was the 280th most popular website in the world across all categories in 2023.
