Posting anime photos has become a "hot trend" on social networks recently.

Although it has only recently appeared, the trend of editing photos using artificial intelligence (AI) in anime style has become a "hot trend" on social networks. Many people are interested in "racing the trend" of turning real photos into anime photos.

At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Information and Communications on September 6, Mr. Nguyen Duy Khiem, representative of the Department of Information Security, said that using anime photo editing applications and providing personal images and faces poses many potential risks to information security.

In addition to asking users to provide photos, the application also requests permission to access the photo library, phone camera and some other permissions. Based on obtaining information about the face, appearance and other information such as email address, phone number..., the application provider can collect, store and process personal information, personal data of users for different purposes.

Besides, payment technology and account verification by face are very popular, bad guys can take advantage of images to steal personal accounts.

"One of the most popular forms of fraud today is deepfake video calls. Subjects use AI to copy portraits to create fake videos of relatives and friends, from which they make online scam calls," said Mr. Khiem.

To minimize the risk of information leakage, the Information Security Department recommends that users should limit sharing images, personal information, and personal data on social networking platforms; select and use reputable applications; carefully read the terms and requirements of the service provider before using. In particular, users should not provide sensitive, private images on applications.

Users need to pay special attention, before installing any application, to fully consider the permissions that the application wants to access; at the same time, control the application's access rights to information and functions on smart devices...

According to security expert Vu Ngoc Son, Technology Director (NSC Cyber Security Company), anime photos are not necessarily the same as the original photos. In some cases, AI processes incorrectly and recognizes the wrong object. However, users still accept it and it quickly becomes a trend because they consider it just for fun.

The technique of creating images using AI is not new. Instead of describing to AI what they want the photo to show or what the scene is like, the creators have allowed uploading an original photo so that AI can find the problem and then come up with the solution.

This expert noted that in the digital world, "nothing is free". If the photo archive falls into the wrong hands, they can train AI, use deepfake to create fake photos and videos for various purposes, even fraud. Therefore, users should not trade personal data, especially their facial data, for a few minutes of fun on social networks.
