Community tourism faces difficulties in mountainous district of Khanh Hoa

In the summer, Yang Bay Park in Khanh Phu Commune, Khanh Vinh District is an interesting destination for tourists when visiting Khanh Hoa Province. This tourist park is nearly 600 hectares wide, invested in as an eco-tourism resort combined with promoting and introducing the unique culture of the Raglai ethnic group. Yang Bay Park attracts tourists by the wild beauty of the mountains and forests, vast grass and trees, many waterfalls, and fresh air. There are 3 waterfalls flowing down from above like a white silk strip, in which, at Ho Cho waterfall, visitors can enjoy and explore the natural hot mineral water.

In early 2024, the mountainous district of Khanh Son, Khanh Hoa province received good news when the Prime Minister decided to recognize Khanh Son lithophone as a national treasure. This place also has unique rituals and customs of the Raglai people such as: Grave abandonment ceremony recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as an intangible cultural heritage in 2012; New rice eating ceremony; Life cycle ritual; Thanksgiving ceremony. Khanh Son district has famous traditional musical instruments that are featured in poetry with the Chapi instrument, and a space for gong cultural activities...

However, tourism development here still faces many difficulties due to the distance between places. In recent years, this mountainous district has begun to build community tourism spots. In Son Lam commune, the Sa Mong community tourism village model of the Green Startup Cooperative is being invested in with the participation of Raglay and Kinh households.

Mr. Huynh Mazsa, founding member of Sa Mong Community Tourism Village, shared: "Services such as stilt house accommodation, Raglay cuisine have cultural and artistic activities. Through that, we will convey to tourists Raglay artistic activities such as lithophone, Chapi, and Raglay dances. The services combine mountain climbing products, introducing tourists to experience forests, rivers, streams, waterfalls, and historical relics in Son Lam commune, Khanh Son district."

In the 2022-2025 period, Khanh Hoa province will spend nearly 8 billion VND to support the development of community tourism such as: installing signs and directions in tourist areas and spots; building and developing tourism products and services, training tourism service skills for individuals and households in the community...

Mountainous districts in Khanh Hoa have great potential for tourism development.

Mr. Van Ngoc Huong - Chairman of Khanh Vinh District People's Committee said that the district has a high forest coverage rate, many rivers, streams, waterfalls, lakes along with diverse and unique cultures of many ethnic minorities. Traditional occupations such as brocade weaving, handicrafts, agricultural processing... have the opportunity to become products serving tourists.

"Khanh Vinh is the unit that started later, from which we can draw lessons in land and resource management that must be included in the planning, lessons in investment work. When it happens, the management of eco-tourism and socio-economic tasks must be done well, and we must learn more. With a complete mechanism and adequate conditions, Khanh Vinh will have more favorable conditions" - Mr. Van Ngoc Huong said.

Currently, community tourism products in the mountainous areas of Khanh Hoa province are still small and fragmented. The development of community tourism in the mountainous areas is still difficult and spontaneous because land use planning in some localities has not been approved by competent authorities, affecting the promotion and attraction of investors.

Many cooperatives, organizations, and individuals registering for experiential tourism activities, tourism on agricultural land, forest land... encounter many obstacles when converting land use purposes.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh - Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Tourism requested competent authorities to soon complete detailed plans, attract investment, and focus on building community tourism spots: "Only when all conditions are met can we enjoy them. We and the departments and branches closely coordinate and provide specific instructions. At the same time, Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism directly surveys and has directions to support localities in implementing this task. There needs to be a solution if human resources are weak, it is necessary to restructure other sectors and fields of the district, and revive community tourism in the locality".
