Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of March 26, 2025

Experts say that pepper prices will fluctuate greatly in the coming time. Although the new crop has reached the market with increasing volume, farmers' psychology of hoarding this year has led to them limiting sales. In the long term, the upward trend can still occur when consumption demand remains high and there is an expectation that China will soon increase imports again.

Domestic pepper prices continue to increase, currently fluctuating around 159,000 - 160,000 VND/kg, up more than 68% over the same period last year, reflecting a shortage of supply. Although the harvest is entering its peak in Dak Nong and Dak Lak, farmers' mentality of holding on to their goods still dominates the market, causing pepper sales to be small.

Farmers in Dak Nong province harvest pepper

According to the General Department of Customs, in the first 15 days of March, Vietnam exported 8,596 tons of pepper, reaching a turnover of 59.8 million USD, down 26.3% in volume but up 18.8% in value compared to the same period in 2024. Accumulated to mid-March, the total export volume reached 35,802 tons, down 15.8%, but the value increased sharply by 39.7%, reflecting the upward price trend due to tight supply.

The reason for the limited supply is not only due to the reduced output due to the impact of the weather, but also because farmers are not under financial pressure thanks to income from other crops such as durian, coffee and avocado. Meanwhile, businesses and traders, although wanting to buy, face high bank interest rates, limited storage space and seasonal cash flow pressure.

Although the market may fluctuate in the short term due to the harvest season, the long-term outlook for pepper prices remains positive thanks to increased demand from the EU, the US and Asia. China is expected to soon boost imports, supporting pepper prices to maintain their upward momentum.
