Dong Nai has just licensed an additional monkey farm for export with a scale of 14,000 monkeys/year, for medical research.
On December 10, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province announced that it had decided to grant an environmental license to the monkey farm for export belonging to the Vietnam Monkey Breeding and Development Joint Venture Company.
Accordingly, the Vietnam Monkey Breeding and Development Joint Venture Company is allowed to carry out environmental protection activities at the Vietnam Monkey Breeding and Development Farm (farm No. 1) in Long Khanh 3 Quarter, Tam Phuoc Ward, Bien Hoa City.
The project has a total area of nearly 70,000m2 (of which the barn area is more than 17,000m2 ), with a capacity of 14,000 pigs/year.
Vietnam Monkey Breeding and Development Joint Venture Company has full rights and obligations as prescribed in Article 47 of the Law on Environmental Protection.
Regularly and properly operate waste treatment facilities, ensuring that treated waste meets environmental technical standards; take measures to minimize noise and vibration to meet environmental protection requirements; manage waste in accordance with the law.
Thus, this is the second monkey farm for export in Dong Nai to be granted an environmental license and both belong to the Vietnam Monkey Breeding and Development Joint Venture Company.
Previously, on June 27, Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee also granted an environmental license to a monkey farm for export (farm number 1) in Long Khanh 2 quarter, Tam Phuoc ward.
The farm has a scale of over 53,000m2 , of which the barn area is over 10,300m2 , with a capacity of 12,000 pigs/year.
Raising monkeys for export to serve biomedical research
Vietnam Monkey Breeding and Development Joint Venture Company is headquartered in Tam Phuoc Ward, Bien Hoa City. The company has been operating for over 30 years, specializing in breeding monkeys for the purpose of exporting to some European countries, Japan, and the US for biomedical research to serve human life.
According to the leader of Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the company breeds monkeys for export to advanced countries around the world for medical research purposes.
Based on legal regulations, the unit has advised the People's Committee of Dong Nai province to grant an environmental license to the above company.
