Hanoi After a video of a teacher squeezing a student's cheek went viral, the private kindergarten Ngôi Sao Nhỏ in Gia Lam was discovered to be operating illegally and had to close.

On the morning of October 4, Ms. Pham Thi Hai Yen, Deputy Head of Gia Lam District Education Department, announced the above information.

"This morning we went down to check and found that this facility was no longer accepting children. Since the afternoon of October 3, the authorities have come down to remove the sign and stop operations," said Ms. Yen.

The children studying here were arranged to transfer to Quang Trung Public Kindergarten or according to their parents' wishes. The case is being investigated and clarified by the Trau Quy Town Police.

On October 2, a social media user shared a video with a complaint about the inappropriate behavior of staff at the Little Star class with children. In the video, a girl was pressed on the forehead, squeezed the cheeks, and threatened: "Scream with this mouth, are you scared? Scream loudly", causing the girl to cry continuously. Another teacher sat next to her but did not intervene.

Gia Lam Department of Education and Training coordinated to inspect and verify. The results showed that this facility was caring for 8 children from 18 months to 4 years old without a license.

According to Ms. Yen, the owner of the facility, who said she had just taken over the class group, admitted that the video was recorded at the school in August.

Ms. Dao Thi Hau, the mother of the child in the video, said that the child was 14 months old at the time. The family had sent the child to the Little Star class since March last year, with a monthly tuition fee of 5 million VND. At the end of August, she heard that her child was being abused by the teacher, so she went to the owner of the facility and asked to see the camera. In mid-September, Ms. Hau was sent the video by someone. After meeting the owner many times but not getting a satisfactory solution, Ms. Hau changed her child's class and reported it to the police.

"The family wants justice for our child. We also hope that incidents like this will be dealt with severely so that similar acts do not happen again," said Ms. Hau.

The owner of the facility must have a high school diploma or higher, the teacher must have a college degree, the classroom must be at least 15 square meters wide, and some other conditions regarding facilities.
