Amidst the "sea of people" passing through the international terminal of Tan Son Nhat airport, many middle-aged people around 50 - 60 years old, and even children around 7 - 10 years old, were seen watching each person step out, hoping to soon see their loved ones.
Many people are exhausted after a long journey and tired of waiting at the airport, but when they see their relatives pulling out their suitcases, they laugh and talk as if they were not tired at all.
Sharing with us, most of the people who went to pick up their relatives had the same reason because their relatives came home for Tet every year, many of them only came home once in many years, so they were so happy that they went all the way to the airport to pick them up to "stop vomiting".
Mr. Nguyen Tam (65 years old), from Binh Phuoc, went to the airport early in the morning to wait for his daughter who got married in Japan and had not returned home for Tet for 3 years. Although he called Facebook and Zalo and saw pictures of his children every day, he still decided to go to the airport to pick up his daughter's family to return home to celebrate Tet with his family.
"It's not as far away as the US or Canada, but I have children living far away, and I look forward to them coming home during Tet. I go to the airport to welcome them warmly. That said, it's been 3 years since they've been home for Tet. For over a month now, the whole family has been busy cleaning the house, just waiting for the day to go to the airport to welcome their children and grandchildren," Mr. Tam confided.
According to records, many families rented a 16-seat car to take their aunts, uncles, and even... neighbors to pick up overseas Vietnamese. The airport was packed with people from noon to night.
Mr. Vuong, after more than ten years living in the US, rarely had the opportunity to return home for Tet. This year, on the occasion of his nephew's wedding after Tet, he decided to return home. His entire family of more than 15 people went to the airport to welcome him, making the reunion even more warm and meaningful.
However, there are also many young people, especially international students, who choose to come home unexpectedly without giving a specific schedule. They want to avoid the hassle of waiting at the airport for their families and catch a bus home themselves. For them, the surprise of appearing at their doorstep brings a different joy.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport recorded a large number of people flocking to Tan Son Nhat Airport during Tet, while the terminal space was limited, making many people tired. Many families did not know the exact time of the flight, had to wait from morning until late at night, even brought food and slept in the international lobby.
The Southern Airports Authority recommends that people limit going to the airport when not necessary, and proactively look up flight arrival times to avoid overloading.
