The match against Iraq on the evening of November 21 is the last match of the Vietnamese team in 2023. Thus, coach Philippe Troussier and his team closed a year with many emotions, with 6 friendly matches (won 3, lost 3), two official matches (won the Philippines 2-0 and lost 0-1 to Iraq).

The Vietnamese team lost to Iraq in the last seconds, leaving many regrets, but this was a match in which coach Philippe Troussier's team received much praise for playing resiliently and using many young players.

After the match with the Iraqi team, the Vietnamese players returned to play for their clubs in domestic tournaments, with the most recent match being Binh Duong vs Hanoi on November 24 (make-up match of round 1 of V-League 2023/24), followed by the National Cup and round 4 of V-League.

According to the V-League schedule, the tournament lasts until the end of round 8 (ending on December 27). After that, the teams will have a break until round 9 in February next year. For the First Division, the clubs will only compete until December 24 and will have a break until mid-February 2024.

It is expected that at the end of December, the Vietnamese team will gather to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup Finals (January 2024) in Qatar.

In this tournament, the Vietnamese team is in Group D with Japan, Iraq and Indonesia. Thus, once again, coach Philippe Troussier's team will meet Iraq, along with Indonesia - two teams in Group F in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.

The 2023 Asian Cup will take place from January 12 to February 10, 2024, with 6 groups of 4 teams each. The top two teams in each group and the 4 best third-placed teams will advance to the knockout round. According to the schedule, the Vietnamese team will face Japan (January 14), Indonesia (January 19) and Iraq (January 24).
