ReadyBoost allows users to use a flash drive or SD card as a cache, like additional RAM for the system. This feature used to be effective on older computers with limited RAM thanks to the faster speeds of USB flash drives compared to HDDs. But ReadyBoost has become obsolete due to the popularity of SSDs and faster system memory.

Most modern computers come with SSDs, making ReadyBoost redundant. In fact, if you already have an SSD installed in your system, Windows will no longer offer the ReadyBoost option.

At the time ReadyBoost was introduced, SSDs were a luxury item before becoming the norm in recent years. While you can still get ReadyBoost up and running on an older system with a hard drive and low RAM, the performance gains are negligible compared to upgrading to an SSD or adding more RAM.

In practice, upgrading the SSD significantly improved the performance of older devices, while ReadyBoost did not make a significant difference.

One thing to note is that using ReadyBoost can be harmful to your USB flash drive. Using this feature will cause the USB drive to undergo constant write operations, which will wear it out quickly.

Microsoft gradually phased out ReadyBoost in newer versions of Windows before it disappeared completely in Windows 11.

Although Microsoft has not officially confirmed the death of ReadyBoost, the reality shows that this feature has become obsolete in the context of modern technology.

ReadyBoost was once a worthy option for people with low-end hardware, but it no longer meets the needs of users.

Meanwhile, the end of the life cycle of the Windows 10 operating system is approaching, along with concerns about the risk of information security loss for users around the world.

When Windows 10 officially reaches end of support, Microsoft will stop releasing security updates, which means security vulnerabilities will not be patched.

This creates opportunities for hackers to exploit, causing serious consequences such as data theft, ransomware or even remote control of the device.

Many companies are still delaying the upgrade, mainly due to cost and time. But cybersecurity risks can cause much more damage. Therefore, according to Microsoft, companies need to have a specific plan to upgrade or apply alternative security measures.

For individual users, upgrading to Windows 11 is a necessary choice. In case you cannot upgrade, users should install reputable anti-virus software, avoid accessing malicious websites and back up data regularly.
