At Euro 2024, the Swiss team will bring along a team of data analysts to deal with each opponent.

They dissected many videos to carefully examine each situation of the teams in the tournament. According to the German newspaper Bild, thanks to this analysis, Switzerland had a very good match against the host Germany on June 24.

The team of analysts worked at the Maritim Hotel near Dusseldorf Airport. Their meeting room was filled with laptops and large screens. However, over the weekend, the laptops containing the Swiss team’s analysis data were stolen.

“I can confirm that three laptops belonging to the analysis team were stolen from the hotel. The police are involved,” said Adrian Arnold, a representative of the Swiss Football Association. This raised concerns about the leak of analysis data of the Swiss team.

However, Mr Arnold stated: “That data is not exactly what we need to analyse matches at Euro 2024. So if this is a data attack on the Swiss team, they have the wrong team!”

Currently, the Swiss team representative is actively cooperating with the police to investigate the incident. Security cameras have detected the suspect, but more time is needed to verify.

The incident is a wake-up call for teams to keep their information secure, and it also demonstrates the importance of data analysis to improve performance at Euro 2024. Switzerland will play their round of 16 match on June 29.
