Vietnam futsal team continues to advance

The thrilling victory over the Thai futsal team was not simply a match to break the curse against this opponent but also showed many positive signs about the opportunity to reach the final of the tournament for the Vietnamese futsal team.

Coach Giustozzi and his team failed at the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship in April due to not taking advantage of scoring opportunities. The Argentine strategist admitted that the efficiency of more than 1 goal/match in that tournament was too low. But at this Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, the Vietnamese futsal team did much better, most clearly demonstrated in the match against the Thai futsal team. If they were a little luckier, the number of goals against this opponent would not have stopped at 3 when Tran Thai Huy had quality shots that hit the post. After the match, both coaches Rodrigo and Giustozzi admitted that the Vietnamese futsal team took advantage of opportunities too well. Key player Nguyen Thinh Phat also scored 4 goals and played more confidently with each match.

If we can maintain this form, the Vietnamese futsal team is fully capable of defeating Australia in the semi-finals. In the last two encounters, we won both times, with scores of 5-1 (in 2022) and 2-0 (in 2019). In the FIFA rankings, the Vietnamese futsal team is also 15 places higher than its opponent (34 compared to 49).

Coach Rodrigo commented on the Vietnamese futsal team with Thanh Nien : "There is no doubt that the strength of the Vietnamese futsal team is a high-intensity and stable pressing system. It is difficult to break this system. If the Australian futsal team is not afraid to take risks to play the ball in the home field, the Vietnamese team will need to make an effort to block the midfield area. I think this is a difficult match, relatively balanced. But in general, the players of the Vietnamese futsal team all have good tactical awareness, are experienced and play wisely, so I believe they will beat the Australian futsal team to reach the final."
