On the evening of November 10, coach Diego Giustozzi's students failed to make history when they lost 0-2 to the Indonesian futsal team in the final match of the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal championship.
The players under coach Hector Souto were rated by Miguel Rodrigo, the captain of the Thai futsal team, as the best in this tournament. The performance of the Indonesian futsal team in the first half was consistent with this assessment. With an excellent individual technical foundation, the team from the archipelago played aggressively, creating many dangerous shots from effective dribbling. In addition, they also had diverse coordination, clearly demonstrated through the corner kick arrangement that resulted in a goal in the 8th minute. The Vietnamese futsal team appeared quite passive in this situation. In defense, the Indonesian futsal team also did well. They pressed too strongly, making it difficult for the pivots Thinh Phat and Da Hai to receive the ball from their teammates. Even a player with good technique like Doan Phat lost the ball twice in their own half because of quick pressure.

In addition, the Vietnamese futsal team was also at a disadvantage in terms of physical strength. The emotional comeback against the Australian futsal team in the semi-finals caused coach Giustozzi's students to lose their physical strength and were at a disadvantage in one-on-one battles. In the second half, after a defensive effort, Cong Vien was injured and had to leave the field. Thai Huy and Thinh Phat also showed signs of fatigue. In addition, we were not lucky when Thinh Phat's tricky shot in the 9th minute hit the crossbar.
It was not until the middle of the second half that the Vietnamese futsal team gradually increased the tempo of the match and improved the quality of their coordination. In particular, the second group with young, strong players, Da Hai - Ngoc Anh - Minh Quang - Cong Vien/Manh Dung, played very sharply and confidently. Da Hai even had a delicate "threading" move, causing the opponent to get angry and commit a foul. It was just a pity that the final shots of the second group could not help the Vietnamese futsal team score an equalizer. After that, that feeling of regret appeared again when Thinh Phat could not punish the opponent's goalkeeper's mistake in the 24th minute.
With 4 minutes left in the match, the Vietnamese futsal team decided to play power-play. Nhan Gia Hung wore a goalkeeper's jersey and played the role of the attacking leader. Fixo of Thai Son Nam Club and his teammates had a number of scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize on them. At the end of the match, impatience appeared and the Vietnamese futsal team conceded the second goal after a bad pass by Doan Phat. This result was not beyond the experts' predictions because coach Souto brought to this tournament the best players, at a time when the archipelago's futsal scene was at its most prosperous after many years of strong investment. At the same time, the Vietnamese futsal team also suffered a loss of strength when captain Pham Duc Hoa was absent due to injury.

However, Coach Giustozzi’s students also deserve praise. The whole team showed a tenacious fighting spirit. Cong Vien, Thinh Phat, Da Hai, Ngoc Anh… although very tired and in pain, were still passionate in every fight, still playing football with all their hearts. Seeing the way the young players, especially Da Hai and Ngoc Anh, played confidently in the final match of their first international tournament, fans have the right to hope for a brighter future for Vietnamese futsal.
