During its one-year tenure at the Mission, the 2nd Engineering Team has created many good impressions and images in the hearts of international friends in general and the people of the Abyei Region in particular about the image of the country and people of Vietnam as friendly, responsible and noble.
Along with performing well the professional activities according to the assigned tasks, the Engineering Team No. 2 has actively carried out mass mobilization work such as: Organizing medical examination and treatment and providing clean water for local people; instructing people to grow vegetables; supporting local educational institutions to build and repair schools to serve cadres, staff, teachers and students to improve the quality of study; organizing road construction and rescuing local means of transport stuck in the rainy season; organizing cultural exchanges, sharing experiences and community education activities in the locality...
During the welcoming ceremony at Noi Bai International Airport, Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, warmly welcomed the 2nd Engineering Team to return home after completing their mission, and praised all officers and employees of the 2nd Engineering Team for their excellent performance during their term of office. At the same time, he highly appreciated the 4 members of the 2nd Engineering Team for their excellent performance and their willingness to continue to stay in the 3rd Engineering Team.
As the 2nd Echelon of Vietnam deployed in a new area, in the context of the Mission restructuring its forces, lacking facilities, harsh weather conditions and facing many difficulties in daily life as well as in work. However, the 2nd Engineer Team overcame all difficulties, united, made efforts, and excellently completed the tasks assigned by the Ministry of National Defense and the UNISFA Mission Commander.
Up to now, the 2nd Engineer Team has successfully completed many missions, receiving praise from the authorities and the UNISFA Mission Commander; respect from international friends and colleagues; and appreciation and love from the local government and people.
With these outstanding achievements, all 184 officers and staff of the Team were awarded the Medal for the cause of United Nations peacekeeping by the Mission Commander on behalf of the United Nations Security Council.
In addition, the United Nations also sent a letter of commendation to the Engineering Team No. 2 for its many contributions during its tenure, especially in the reconstruction phase of the Mission's infrastructure, in which the Vietnam Engineering Team was the pioneer in implementing the Mission's "Smart Barracks" Project.
The Minister of Education of Abyei Region sent a letter of thanks to the Vietnamese Engineering Team for supporting local people in repairing houses, roads, carrying out charity works and stabilizing the residential situation.
With the dedication and contribution of the 2nd Engineer Team, the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers and even more so the image of the Vietnamese Blue Berets has been spread, creating a connection between the local government and people with the United Nations peacekeeping force in general and Vietnam in particular, thereby creating favorable conditions for the next echelons to perform their tasks well in the Mission area.
