At the end of the first official competition day at the 12th ASEAN Para Games, the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation impressed with a "shower" of gold medals.

On June 4, the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation won a total of 18 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 18 bronze medals.
The swimming team won 7 gold medals, including Vo Huynh Anh Khoa, Vi Thi Hang (2 gold medals), Nguyen Van Hanh, Nguyen Thanh Trung, Vo Thanh Tung and the "Quartet" Vo Huynh Anh Khoa, Quach Van Vinh, Nguyen Ngoc Thiet and Nguyen Hoang Nha (4x100m freestyle).
The weightlifting team also contributed 3 gold medals, from athletes Dang Thi Linh Phuong, Le Van Cong and Nguyen Binh An (each won 2 gold medals).
The athletics team also contributed 2 gold medals from Nguyen Thi Hai in shot put and Tran Van Nguyen (javelin throw).
At the end of the competition day, the chess team also brought home 3 more gold medals (one individual, two team).
This achievement helped the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation rank second on the overall medal tally of the 12th Para Games.
The Indonesian Paralympic delegation is currently leading the medal tally with 31 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 17 bronze medals.
Thailand ranked third with 15 gold medals, while the Philippines surpassed Malaysia (ranked fifth) to rise to fourth place with 9 gold medals.
The next positions respectively belong to the delegations of Singapore, Myanmar, host Cambodia, Timor Leste, Laos and Brunei.
