The Vietnamese team, including athletes Nguyen Thi Phuong, Luu Thi Thu Uyen, Nguyen Ngoc Tram, won against Malaysia in the women's team kata final. This is the third gold medal of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 19th ASIAD.

Karate is one of the few sports in which the Vietnamese delegation has the ability to compete for a Gold Medal at the 19th ASIAD. After two fighters in the combat category were eliminated early on the morning of October 6, the task of "hunting for gold" fell on Nguyen Thi Ngoan (competing in the women's under 61kg category) and the women's kata team.

Nguyen Thi Phuong, Luu Thi Thu Uyen, Nguyen Ngoc Tram are expected to win the Gold Medal when the opponents Malaysia, Cambodia and Brunei are all in the same region and are considered weaker than Vietnam. Right from the qualifying round, the scores of Vietnamese boxers were the highest.

In the final match against Malaysia, the Vietnamese team scored 42.7 points, while their opponents only received 39 points. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Luu Thi Thu Uyen and Nguyen Ngoc Tram won the Gold Medal in the women's team kata (performance) category.

The joy of the Vietnamese karate team was not complete when Nguyen Thi Ngoan only won a silver medal in the women's kumite (combat) category under 61kg. She lost to Chinese martial artist Gong Li with a score of 0-9.

Nguyen Thi Ngoan was at a disadvantage in this match. She did not score any points, while her opponent had 3 yuko points and 2 ippon points.

In addition to the two karate medals, the Vietnamese sports delegation won a bronze medal in the men's regu sepak takraw event. The women's sepak takraw team reached the final of the regu event.
