Ms. Lien, 65 years old, can walk normally after a long time in a wheelchair, thanks to two consecutive artificial hip replacements in two weeks.
Ms. Lien (Binh Duong) has suffered from pain in both hips for many years. Despite many treatments, the pain has increased, making it difficult for her to walk. For over a year now, she has been in a wheelchair, so she always feels sad and self-conscious.
Admitting the patient in early July, Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh, Director of the Orthopedic Trauma Center, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, diagnosed Ms. Lien with hip joint damage and necrosis of the femoral head on both sides. The doctor ordered the patient to have hip replacement surgery as soon as possible using the SuperPath method.
Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh said that before the surgery, the patient's hip joint data was digitized and entered into the computer system, helping the doctor to measure and choose the detailed surgical procedure. When replacing the hip joint, the doctor only makes a small incision of about 7-8 cm, removes damaged bone and cartilage, and replaces the deformed femoral head with artificial material.

Unlike the traditional method, in the SuperPath technique, the doctor replaces the hip joint without cutting the muscles and joint capsule. Preserving the external rotator muscle group helps the hip joint to be stable and not dislocated when moving again. Thanks to that, the patient can walk gently after the first day of surgery, avoiding complications such as hip dislocation, bone fracture...
The first hip replacement surgery was painless and the recovery was quick, so Ms. Lien agreed to have the other hip replaced just a few days later, without the three months of rest she had planned.

One week after surgery, she was able to walk on her own and return to her normal life. She is continuing physical therapy to recover better.
"After more than a year in a wheelchair, I can walk on my own two feet. I am as happy as if I had a second life," said Ms. Lien.
Dr. Nam Anh said that cases of osteoporosis, bone degeneration that are not treated with conservative treatment, extensive necrosis of the femoral head, severe hip joint damage, femoral neck fractures in the elderly... can be replaced with artificial hip joints using the SuperPath method. This method requires high technique, needs to be performed by experienced doctors with the support of modern equipment to ensure safety, limit risks, especially for elderly patients with many underlying diseases.
