TPO - The Hanoi People's Committee strives to complete the construction of about 10 urban railway lines with a length of about 410km by 2035.
At the recent 4th Conference of the Red River Delta Coordination Council, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan presented a plan to complete the urban railway network of Hanoi city.
Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said that according to the plan, Hanoi will have 10 urban railway lines with a length of more than 410km. In the adjusted plan, with a vision to 2065, Hanoi will add 5 more railway lines, for a total of 15 lines, with a length of about more than 610km.
Hanoi City assesses that, for "super cities" like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, urban railways are a very important public passenger transport solution, considered the "backbone" in the urban transport infrastructure system.

In recent years, the implementation of investment in the development of transport infrastructure in general, including the development of urban railways, has encountered many difficulties and challenges. However, Hanoi has put into operation the Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway line, the elevated section Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station, which has been highly appreciated by the people.
The Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee said that recently, Hanoi has proactively coordinated with localities in the capital region to unify the scale of traffic connection routes, especially with urban railway routes to connect regions, creating new development space momentum.
According to Mr. Tuan, by 2035, the city strives to complete the investment and construction of about 10 urban railway lines, with a length of about 410km.
Specifically, in the 2024 - 2030 period, it will be necessary to build about 96km in length, with a preliminary total capital of about 14.6 billion USD.
The remaining 310km will be built in the 2031-2035 period, with an initial capital requirement of approximately US$22.5 billion. The total capital requirement by 2035 is approximately US$37 billion.
Hanoi City People's Committee plans to balance resources, possibly mobilizing about 28 billion USD for implementation, needing central support of about 8.6 billion USD.
After 2035 to 2045, the city will invest in the remaining 5 urban railway lines, about 200km long, with a total capital requirement of about 18.2 billion USD.
Focus on lines 2 and 3
Mr. Duong Duc Tuan said that Hanoi city is focusing resources on building urban railway line No. 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section and urban railway line No. 3, Hanoi station - Hoang Mai section.
Of which, Hanoi plans to start construction of line 2 in 2025. For line 3, Hanoi hopes that relevant units will approve the proposal to use ODA capital to implement the next steps.
According to the plan, the Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao urban railway line has a total length of 11.5km, including 8.9km underground and 2.6km elevated, with 10 trains; the total investment of the project is about 35,588 billion VND. Hanoi is expected to complete the line in 2029.
The Hanoi – Hoang Mai urban railway line is 8.7km long, running underground along the Tran Hung Dao – Tran Thanh Tong – Kim Nguu – Nguyen Tam Trinh corridor; the total investment of the project is about 40,500 billion VND.
