Conference Scene
Through the process of formation and development, under the leadership of the Party, generations of artists and writers were trained through two great resistance wars of the nation and have matured and grown strong in the period of Renovation, always attached to the Party, the People, and accompanying the nation.
Among thousands of valuable literary and artistic works over the past 80 years, a very important section, occupying a prominent position, with great ideological and artistic value, are works of many genres, from literature, music, theater, cinema, photography, dance, fine arts..., written about the theme of the people's armed forces, about Uncle Ho's soldiers.
The image of Uncle Ho's soldiers is not only the crystallization of the noble qualities of soldiers: bravery, sacrifice, absolute loyalty to the Party and the people, but also a symbol of patriotism, noble humanism; solidarity, close attachment between the Army and the People, the aspiration for Independence and Freedom. The model personality of Uncle Ho's soldiers is the foundation for building the heroic, invincible Vietnam People's Army.
"This is a vast field of topics, an endless source of inspiration for generations of artists to create, giving birth to many works and projects of high ideological and artistic value associated with the tradition of the heroic Vietnam People's Army, contributing to enriching the mainstream of Vietnamese revolutionary literature and art, leaving a deep impression on the advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity", Associate Professor, Dr. Musician Do Hong Quan emphasized.
Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Associate Professor, Doctor of Musician Do Hong Quan speaking at the Workshop
Based on the analysis of the Party's cultural and artistic guidelines and the practice of creation, promotion, research, and critical theory on the topic of the Vietnamese People's Armed Forces, reflecting on the revolutionary stages and the current development of literature and art, many opinions at the Workshop affirmed that the achievements of literature and art in this topic area are extremely great and important.
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Lenh Hung Tu, Chairman of the Vietnam Cinema Association, shared that every year, on the occasion of the anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7), the founding day of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22), the National Defense Day (December 22)... together with the film distribution and dissemination industry, the General Department of Political Cinema of the People's Army often solemnly organizes commemorative film weeks. Surprisingly, the films depicting the qualities, sacrifices and dedication of Uncle Ho's soldiers, whether in wartime or peacetime, always bring deep emotions.
Although many films about war and soldiers were produced and released decades ago, when they were re-screened, such as: Hoa ban do (1994), Biet dong Sai Gon (1986), Ha Noi 12 days and nights (2002), Ky uc Dien Bien (2004), Duong thu, Giai phong Sai Gon, Dong song pham lang (2005), Dung dot (2009), Mui co cham (2012), Nguoi viet huyen thu (2013), Song co su (2014)... and many other films still attract a large number of viewers, especially many young viewers. People who wanted to watch stood for hours on Ly Nam De street and the seats were full, many people had to stand or sit on the floor of the auditorium. Many films about soldiers in the fire of war or in post-war life brought many emotions to the audience. Not only is it a story about sacrifice, courage and qualities of soldiers, but it is also a vivid picture of the silent feats of the Vietnam People's Army through the ages.
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Lenh Hung Tu, Chairman of Vietnam Cinema Association shared at the Workshop
Sharing about the image of soldiers in peacetime through the film Khong Thoi Gian, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Lenh Hung Tu said: "What is special about Khong Thoi Gian is the combination of the past and the present. The audience not only witnesses the fierce fighting scenes of soldiers in the resistance war against the US but also other wars in peacetime, such as natural disasters, epidemics and rescue work, the role models of modern soldiers, full of responsibility, ready to sacrifice themselves to protect the lives of the people. It is the dedication and unceasing sacrifice of Uncle Ho's soldiers that is the message that many films produced later want to send to viewers."
Improve professionalism in composition
Through their attachment and companionship with the armed forces and the nation, over the past 80 years, artists of all disciplines and genres have created valuable works, rich in content, of artistic quality, serving promptly and having long-term significance, spreading to the public at home and abroad.
According to poet Huu Thinh, after the Vietnam Literature and Arts Association was established in 1948, artists and writers eagerly joined the army to participate in campaigns. People's war and revolutionary soldiers became the central themes of literature and art. Over time, the theme of soldiers was increasingly deepened in three relationships: patriotism, comradeship and military-civilian relations. After that, anti-American literature and art inherited a huge "fortune" from anti-French literature and art, and poetry remained the pioneering field.
Poet Huu Thinh speaks at the Conference
"Side by side with the younger generation, the poets of the previous generation firmly entered the second resistance war with new crystallization. That was To Huu with the epic poem Non nuoc ngan dam, Che Lan Vien with Nhung bai tho danh giac, Nguyen Dinh Thi with Chia tay trong dem Ha Noi, Chinh Huu with Ngoan den gian gac... This meeting of "three generations of fellow students" created an unprecedented new look for our modern poetry. The anti-American poets closely followed life, grew up with life, both actively engaged in current topics and hastily accumulated life experiences, preparing for long works. And not long after the war ended, a series of epic poems by Nguyen Khoa Diem, Thanh Thao, Huu Thinh, Nguyen Duc Mau, Thi Hoang, Anh Ngoc, Nguyen Trong Tao, Tran Nhuan Minh, Tran Anh Thai, Y Phuong... were born.
In those epic poems, the epic and lyrical qualities combine smoothly with the commentary and philosophy to create a complex spectrum for each work. The appearance of epic poems summarizing the war has just closed a period, opening a new period for the development of poetry when the country entered two border wars and protected the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland" - poet Huu Thinh commented.
Delegates chairing the workshop
According to the delegates, the current period is an important stepping stone for generations of artists to continue to strive to improve the quality of their creations, cultivate and accumulate life experiences, delve deeper into this topic to create works of even higher artistic and ideological value, worthy of the heroic tradition of our army and people in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
According to the delegates, in the current national and international context, the topic of the Vietnam People's Armed Forces needs to fully cover issues surrounding the protection of national security (traditional security) and non-traditional security (human, cultural, environmental security...) based on the vision of humanism, mobilizing the joint efforts of the human community.
In addition, it is necessary to improve professionalism in creation, organization and management of literary and artistic careers with fundamental and long-term solutions to meet the increasing demands of the public and the strong trend of international integration in the spirit of promoting Vietnamese national identity, continuing to uphold the spirit of revolutionary heroism from the cultural roots, the tradition of loving peace and humanity of the Vietnamese people throughout history./.
