After 20 years of use, the domestic waste transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street (Thanh Khe District) has degraded and broken down, and currently the waste compacting equipment is unusable due to unsuitable technology and does not meet environmental requirements.
In recent years, Thanh Khe Environmental Enterprise (Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company) has temporarily used the station's premises as a waiting point for motor vehicles to transport garbage after the garbage is directly collected by workers from alleys, lanes, and small roads and brought back, with the total daily garbage volume only about 50% compared to before.
Therefore, there have been a number of waiting points for garbage transportation on the nearby streets. Director of Thanh Khe Environmental Enterprise Nguyen Viet Hung informed that currently, the enterprise only uses the garbage transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street as a waiting point for garbage trucks with a capacity of 4.5 tons and 7 tons. The total amount of garbage brought here is only about 18 tons/day.
Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Thanh Khe District Ho Van Dung said that the district has just commented on the report proposing the project policy of the domestic waste transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street for departments, branches and sectors to appraise and propose to the city to have an investment policy for the project. The investment in the waste transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street was determined by the district to be in line with the planning and necessary for investment. Talking to reporters, Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Civil, Industrial and Technical Infrastructure Works of Da Nang Nguyen Nho Thien said that, in addition to the waste transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street, the unit is taking steps to submit to the City People's Committee for a decision on the investment policy of the waste transfer station in Ngu Hanh Son area.
According to the project to adjust the solid waste (garbage) treatment planning of Da Nang city until 2030, with a vision to 2045, which has just been approved by the City People's Committee, the city invests in and builds a network of waste transfer stations that meet environmental requirements, closed technology combined with the function of a sorting center to prepare for thorough sorting activities. Specifically, investing in and building transfer stations in Thanh Khe area (Nguyen Duc Trung street), Ngu Hanh Son, Lien Chieu, Hoa Vang. At the same time, continuing to maintain operations, reviewing the system of equipment, capacity, and function of waste transfer stations in Son Tra area and Le Thanh Nghi street to meet the demand for collecting household waste in the area; completing and putting into use the waste transfer station in Cam Le area...
Contractors are focusing on constructing the Cam Le waste transfer station with many technical improvements and optimal technology compared to the Son Tra waste transfer station and Le Thanh Nghi street, expected to be completed in August 2025 to celebrate the Da Nang City Party Congress.
Mr. Dang Que Hung, representative of the Joint Venture of SEEN Engineering Joint Stock Company and Saigon Transport Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO), said that the contractor is focusing on building the factory, machine base... to bring the equipment for installation in mid-May 2025. The Cam Le area domestic waste transfer station has many technical improvements such as: installing additional anti-collision steel plates between the waste chute and the factory floor when in contact to increase the life of the project; improving the structure of the garbage compactor slide rail to increase the life and make it suitable for the type of waste in coastal areas with a lot of oyster shells, clams and sea sand as well as mixed with bricks, stones, construction waste...
The station has also been improved to be more environmentally friendly, such as: raising the side walls of the garbage chute to prevent garbage from falling onto the factory when receiving large-tonnage garbage trucks for dumping; adding nozzles of the automatic car wash system to wash under and behind the garbage trucks to avoid polluting the environment on the streets; hooklift trucks transporting compacted garbage containers have Euro 5 emission standards...
“The waste transfer stations in Son Tra district and Le Thanh Nghi street have been and are being maintained, serviced, and technically improved to operate stably and extend their lifespan. The factory design has a waiting position for the installation of additional waste compacting equipment to easily increase operating capacity in the future.
With the completion of the Cam Le waste transfer station in August 2025, Da Nang will have modern waste transfer stations put into operation with many advantages in terms of techniques and technology, meeting the city's requirements for waste collection, transportation and treatment, helping to make the urban landscape and environment cleaner, more beautiful and civilized," said Mr. Hung.
