Beware of electrical short circuits during hot season

The hot season often causes many impacts on production and business as well as people's lives and activities. Especially in the summer months in Da Nang City, high temperatures have many risks of causing incidents related to the electrical system, especially electrical short circuits.

It can be said that one of the main causes of electrical short circuits during the hot season is the increased use of electrical equipment. The hot weather causes a sharp increase in the demand for electrical equipment such as air conditioners, fans, refrigerators, etc. This leads to an increase in the electrical load in households, residential areas and businesses, putting pressure on the electrical system.

During the hot season, families have the habit of using many electrical appliances at the same time such as air conditioners, fans, washing machines, cooking appliances, etc., leading to overload, increasing the risk of electrical short circuits.

Discussing this topic, Mr. Khoa (Son Tra district, Da Nang city) said: “In addition to equipping knowledge about electricity usage, my family focuses on installing protective devices such as automatic circuit breakers, circuit breakers, lightning arresters and short circuit protection devices to ensure safety. These devices have the function of automatically cutting off the power when detecting a problem, to minimize the risk of electrical short circuits.”

Electrical short circuits are not only a technical problem in the electricity industry but also a serious threat to people's lives and property. Fires and explosions caused by electrical faults can cause great damage and have long-term consequences.

The causes that easily lead to electrical short circuits are the use of damaged or worn electrical wires; the use of poor quality sockets and electrical wires; the improper use of electrical equipment... Plugging too many devices into one electrical outlet or using electrical equipment with incorrect design capacity can also increase the risk of fire and electrical short circuits.

To minimize the risk of electrical short circuits during the hot season, people need to check the entire electrical system in the home, especially old equipment, electrical wires, sockets and circuit breakers. If any signs of damage, corrosion or oxidation are detected, they should be replaced or repaired immediately. In particular, people should prioritize the use of good quality electrical equipment, choose wires with cross-sections suitable for the capacity of the equipment, and equip a protection system to prevent electrical short circuits.

When the hot season changes, it is often accompanied by showers. If electrical wires or electrical equipment are flooded, it can easily lead to leaks or electrical short circuits, endangering people nearby.

“It has become a habit that before each hot season, I often check the sockets, wires, electrical panels and electrical appliances in my home such as fans, air conditioners, refrigerators... If I detect any signs of damage, I replace or repair them immediately to ensure safety” - Mr. Nguyen Van Viet (Cam Le district, Da Nang city) shared.

Electrical short circuits are one of the potential risks during the hot season, when the demand for electricity increases and electrical equipment must work continuously. It is thought that proactively maintaining the electrical system, using safe electrical equipment and raising awareness when using electricity will help reduce unfortunate accidents related to electrical short circuits during the hot season.

In recent times, PC Da Nang has regularly organized propaganda programs on electrical safety among the people, in schools, agencies, offices, etc. to provide basic knowledge on how to identify the risks of fire, explosion, electrical short circuits, as well as preventive measures and how to use electricity safely and economically.

It can be said that electrical safety is not only the responsibility of the Electricity industry but also requires the cooperation of the community to build a safe living environment.
