The information was shared by Ms. Ly Phuong Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Cinema - at the conference with the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations and central specialized literature and arts associations in the first quarter.

The conference took place on the afternoon of April 5 in Hanoi.

Responding more specifically to Tuoi Tre Online , a representative of the Cinema Department said that as of March 11, the film Dao, Pho and Piano earned 20.8 billion VND and broke even after nearly 3 months in theaters.

However, the word "break even" here will be understood differently from the usual understanding.

Because, according to market rules, specifically the profit sharing ratio between producers and distributors, the film Dao, Pho and Piano must earn 50 billion VND to be considered to break even.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong explained that private film distributors have agreed to release films in their theaters and return all ticket revenue to the state budget.

Peach, Pho and Piano earned nearly 21 billion after 3 months of release

Peach, Pho and Piano and Hong Ha Nu Si are two feature films in the pilot project to popularize state-ordered films of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, both released on February 10 (the first day of Tet) at the National Cinema Center - a film screening unit under the ministry.

But thanks to the social media effect, Dao, Pho and Piano quickly escaped the cramped confines of the National Cinema Center to reach a number of commercial theaters across the country.

Meanwhile, the remaining films are still only shown at their original locations.

Previously, sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Department of Cinema - said that the audience's reception of Dao, Pho and Piano showed that the ministry's project was on the right track.

At the conference, delegates also discussed the shortcomings in the production and dissemination of films using the state budget, thereby continuing to research and develop policies and create a legal corridor.

According to the report of the Department of Cinema, the current budget for producing a film is built on the basis of technical and economic norms stipulated in Decision No. 2484/QD-BVHTTDL dated September 21, 2021.

In which, the unit price for ordering the production of a feature film includes direct production costs and 100 million VND for promotion and organization of a film premiere.

However, there is a current situation where the production cost of films using the state budget does not keep up with the market price laws.

Second, movies have huge production and promotion costs. Meanwhile, the state budget is quite small and has no separate promotion costs.
