Bringing the Central Highlands culture and art space to Hanoi

NDO - The musical play “Aspiration of Dam San” and the folk music and art program “Call of the Highlands” will be performed for the audience in the capital on the evenings of April 12 and 13, 2025. This information was just announced at a press conference on the afternoon of April 10 in Hanoi.

The opera "Dam San's Aspiration" and the folk music and art program "The Call of the Highlands" are organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province in coordination with the Department of Culture and Sports of Hanoi city and Song Thuong Garden Company Limited.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Tran Hong Tien, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak said: Dak Lak is a land located in the center of the Central Highlands, a place with a very unique folk culture with 49 ethnic groups living together.

Bringing two art programs imbued with the Central Highlands identity to Hanoi is a way to express the unique cultural space of the Central Highlands right in the capital. This is also the sentiment and enthusiasm of the culture, sports and tourism sector in particular and Dak Lak province in general for the people of Hanoi, domestic and international tourists.

In particular, the opera "Khat vong Dam San" was approved by the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee for implementation with the desire to build a great work in Vietnamese music, praising the aspirations and romantic but also heroic beauty of the Ede people in the Central Highlands.

The work contributes to restoring and preserving Ede culture through music and visual theater, and is expected to become a unique and special cultural tourism product.

Inspired by the “Epic of Dam San”, the opera brings together an experienced production team, with composer Nguyen Cuong as the author; Screenwriter and General Director: Artist Hong Hoa; General Choreographer: People's Artist Y San Alio…

With a structure of 5 chapters: Chapter 1 - "Dam San and H'Nhi"; Chapter 2 - "Trial of Mtao Msei"; Chapter 3 - "Buon sang co lieu"; Chapter 4 - "In the bright land"; Chapter 5 - "The sun rises over the vast plateau", the work takes viewers back to the glorious past in the early days of the tribal alliance period, to meet heroic chiefs, most notably the hero Dam San, who fought with his village, subdued enemies, and conquered nature for the stability and prosperous development of the tribe.

In particular, on the basis of "Epic Dam San", screenwriter Hong Hoa wrote many new details such as: the Sun Goddess's desire to have Dam San, the danger of destruction of the village when it was immersed in darkness, Dam San's desire to protect the village touched the Sun Goddess, the Sun Goddess gave Dam San a magical light, so that the land and sky would always have sweet fruits...

Musician Nguyen Cuong said that the music of the play will heavily use Central Highlands musical instruments, especially those of the Ede ethnic group, combined with international music to create a special resonance.

The opera “Dam San Aspiration” will take place at 8:00 p.m. on April 13, at the Hanoi Drama Theater (42 Trang Tien, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi).

Contributing to recreating the sounds of the vast forests of the Central Highlands, the folk music and art program “The Call of the Highlands” will take place at 7:30 p.m. on April 12 at the Ba Kieu Temple flower garden, in the walking space around Hoan Kiem Lake.

The program brings performances of gongs, traditional musical instruments, famous songs about the Central Highlands by musicians Nguyen Cuong, Tran Tien... With the unique combination of traditional musical instruments of the Central Highlands, along with the delicate and skillful performance of the artists, the program contributes to bringing the Central Highlands cultural space, expressing the connection and harmony between people, heaven, earth and gods.

The representative of the Organizing Committee said that after performing in Hanoi, these art programs will continue to Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and a number of provinces and cities across the country to further spread the cultural and artistic values ​​of the Central Highlands, contributing to attracting tourists to Dak Lak.
