On the afternoon of July 2, director Bui Trung Hai - son of People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac confirmed that People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac passed away at 6:30 p.m. on July 1, at the Viet Xo Friendship Hospital, after a stroke and pneumonia, at the age of 90.
"In recent years, my father's health has been poor, he can only walk around and do light activities around the house. His mind is still clear, he is very interested, and often talks about Vietnamese cinema. He passed away peacefully after a long struggle with illness," said director Bui Trung Hai.
He also said that the funeral date of People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac has not been decided.
People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac was born in 1934 in Phu Tho, joined the army in 1949, and studied cinema in the former Soviet Union. He started working in the film industry on November 15, 1953 at the Viet Bac ATK (Safe Zone) during the resistance war against France, and was one of the artists who laid the first bricks for the Vietnamese Revolutionary Cinema (in the World Cinema Dictionary published by the Soviet Union in 1986, there was an entry introducing the biography and cinematographic works of director Bui Dinh Hac). From 1957 to present, he has been a director of feature films and documentaries.
He was respected by many generations and colleagues. His passing left behind the regret and love of his relatives and colleagues.
In the field of cinema, he is the "father" of the works: Nguyen Van Troi (1966), Road to Mother's Home (1971), Hoa Thien Ly ((1973), Ha Noi, 12 Days and Nights (2002)...
Among them, The Road to Mother's Home , which he co-wrote, won the Golden Lotus Award at the 2nd Vietnam Film Festival (1973), and the First Prize at the New Delhi International Film Festival (India) in 1973. The Ministry of National Defense awarded the A Prize to an excellent Literary and Artistic work on the subject of the Armed Forces - revolutionary war and the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The work Hanoi 12 Days and Nights , recreating the fight against the B-52 raid in 1972, won the Silver Lotus Award at the 14th Vietnam Film Festival (2004). The Ministry of National Defense awarded the B Prize for Literature and Art (from 1999 - 2004) on the theme of the Armed Forces - revolutionary war and the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
With documentaries, he directed films such as: Water returns to Bac Hung Hai, Anh Nguyen Van Troi lives forever, Ho Chi Minh - Portrait of a man, Nguyen Ai Quoc comes to Lenin, Road to the Fatherland.
Of which, Water to Bac Hung Hai, released in 1959, won the First Prize of the Gold Medal at the Moscow International Film Festival for the best documentary. This was the first international Gold Award of the Vietnamese Cinema industry and also the first international Gold Award of the Vietnamese Literature and Arts. Water to Bac Hung Hai has become the pride of the country. The film Water to Bac Hung Hai was also awarded the Golden Lotus Award at the 2nd Vietnam Film Festival in 1973.
Throughout his career, he has held the positions of Director of the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Cinema Department, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Cinema Association, term 1. In addition, he has been a judge at many domestic and international film festivals.
Director Bui Dinh Hac was awarded the title of People's Artist in 1984 and received the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts in 2007.
