On the afternoon of September 30, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of Ha Trung district to organize a scientific workshop on "Evaluating the location, historical and cultural value, and regional connections of Dun Mountain in the historical and cultural space of the national relic of Trieu Tuong Mausoleum and Nguyen Dynasty relics in the area".
The workshop was attended by nearly 100 delegates who are experts and scientists in the fields of history, archaeology, culture, conservation, geology, and environment inside and outside the province.

According to the report presented at the workshop: Ha Trung district does not have many caves, especially caves with valuable natural landscapes, scenic spots and cultural heritage. The case of Dun cave (also known as Dun Mountain cave) located in a mountainous village of Ha Long commune, located in the northwest of Ha Trung district, 12km from the district center and 40km from the center of Thanh Hoa province, is a new discovery, suggesting the possibility of preserving, researching and exploiting cultural values, scenic spots and tourism in the district. The cave is about 70m long, about 40m high, has many stalactites and has a clear underground water source that has just been discovered at Dun Mountain.

Immediately after the discovery, the People's Committee of Ha Trung district coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Thanh Hoa and the People's Committee of Ha Long commune (Ha Trung) to inspect the current situation and recorded that in Dun mountain there is a cave about 70m long, 50m wide, 40m high. The cave has 4 entrances in the east, west, south, and north. In the cave there are many natural stalactites, with an underground water source flowing into the provincial relic area of Ben Quan lake.

Immediately after receiving the petition of the People's Committee of Ha Trung district, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province decided to stop stone mining at Dun mountain.
Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 5204/UBND-CN, dated April 15, 2024 and No. 7714/UBND-CN, dated May 31, 2024 on surveying and evaluating the scale, value, historical, cultural, heritage and tourism significance of caves at Dun Mountain.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also issued a document assigning the Center for Historical Research and Cultural Heritage Conservation of Thanh Hoa to coordinate with relevant units to conduct a comprehensive survey and assessment of the scale, value, and significance of history, culture, heritage, and tourism. In case the cave needs to be protected, the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee is requested to demarcate it as a restricted area and temporarily ban mineral exploitation activities.
Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Van Liem, Editor-in-Chief of the Archaeology Magazine, Vice President of the Vietnam Archaeological Association presented the introductory report at the conference.
At the workshop, 18 presentations by experts and scientists focused on clarifying the historical, cultural, geological and geomorphological values of Dun Cave; the regional connection of Dun Mountain in the historical and cultural space of the national relic of Trieu Tuong Temple and Nguyen Dynasty relics in the area; the work of preserving, promoting and developing the value of Dun Cave.

The results of the workshop are an important basis for the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate with the People's Committee of Ha Trung district to implement the planning, protection and conservation of cultural relics in Ha Trung district, with the important highlight being Dun mountain. Thereby, gradually and effectively exploiting the potential of natural landscape, cultural history of Dun mountain associated with tourism development of Ha Trung in particular and Thanh Hoa in general in the coming time.
