On December 24, information from the 108 Military Central Hospital said that recently, doctors of this unit received and provided emergency care to a male patient (38 years old) who had an iron nail pierced through his skull and into his brain due to a work accident.

According to the family, at around 9am on December 21st, while working at home, the patient was unfortunately shot in the head with a wooden nail gun. After the accident, the family took the patient to the 108 Military Central Hospital for emergency treatment.

The patient was admitted to the hospital in a conscious state, with a head wound bleeding profusely, severe pain in the head, no weakness in the limbs, and a CT scan of the brain showing a metal foreign body.

After completing the necessary tests, the patient was urgently operated on by the medical team and doctors of the Department of Neurosurgery to successfully remove a foreign object, a nail about 5cm long, from his head.

After surgery, the patient continued to receive resuscitation and treatment. Currently, the patient's condition is stable, but still needs active treatment to prevent the risk of brain infection, meningitis, and brain abscess because the foreign object is a long, sharp nail that has penetrated deep into the brain parenchyma, so the risk of infection is very high.

Doctors from the Department of Neurosurgery, 108 Central Military Hospital said that in addition to the above case, they have received many cases of patients who had to be hospitalized due to being stabbed by metal foreign objects during daily activities and work.

Therefore, to limit possible work accidents, Dr. Do Khac Hau, Department of Neurosurgery, recommends that people need to be careful, ensure a safe working environment while working and producing, and especially need to use appropriate labor protection equipment.

When a work accident occurs, it is necessary to promptly provide first aid and take the patient to a reputable medical facility for timely treatment. Absolutely do not arbitrarily remove foreign objects from the wound as it may endanger the patient.
