People suffer because of 10-year unfinished traffic project

Provincial Road 35 passes through 4 communes of Soc Son district, with a total length of about 17km.

Struggling through "buffalo holes" and "elephant holes"

It is noted that many locations on Provincial Road 35 are currently seriously degraded. Especially at some locations in Hong Ky and Nam Son communes (Soc Son district). People and vehicles have to "crawl" across the road at a speed of only 5 - 10km/hour.

On a 200m long stretch of road in Hoa Son village (Nam Son commune), dozens of “buffalo potholes” and “elephant potholes” appeared. In recent days, prolonged heavy rains have caused water to stagnate, making it extremely difficult for people to travel.

Mr. Trinh Dinh Tuyen (Hoa Son village), living near the heavily damaged area, said that every time he needed to go to a relative's house 500m away, he had to go around more than 3km because he could not get through the deep holes that were almost as deep as a motorbike's wheels.

Not only the people, due to the serious deterioration of the road, some large vehicles (including buses) have been forced to change their schedules through the Lien Xuan - Hoa Son inter-village road connecting the two communes of Nam Son - Hong Ky, to ensure safety.

After the recent heavy rains, many locations on Provincial Road 35 continue to be severely damaged. The road surface has sunk, and more and more deep holes have appeared, posing a potential safety risk to passersby.

Chairman of Nam Son Commune People's Committee Hoang Van Chung said that the deterioration of Provincial Road 35 is not a new problem but has been recognized for many years. However, day by day, the level of deterioration of the road is getting more serious.

“We have made a petition to the District Urban Management Office. At meetings with voters, local people are very upset and often express their opinions to People’s Council delegates at all levels. However, the road has not been upgraded synchronously…” - Mr. Hoang Van Chung added.

Many locations on Route 35 are currently in serious disrepair.

When will it be renovated and upgraded?

Provincial Road 35 is about 17km long, passing through 4 communes of Soc Son district: Minh Phu, Bac Son, Nam Son and Hong Ky. This is the main route connecting National Highway 2A with National Highway 3. The locations on the route with the most severe degradation are in the two communes of Hong Ky and Nam Son.

Faced with the deterioration of Provincial Road 35, in early May 2024 and late June 2024, the People's Committee of Soc Son district twice sent Official Dispatches No. 922/UBND-QLDT and 1499/UBND-QLDT to the City People's Committee, the Department of Transport and the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board. In particular, it requested to promptly organize the repair of damaged locations on Highway 35, especially the section passing through Nam Son and Hong Ky communes.

The Office of the Hanoi People's Committee then received feedback from the grassroots, issued Document No. 5362/VP-DT conveying the direction of Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan, in which it requested: The Department of Transport to preside over and coordinate with the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board to inspect, direct repairs, and remedy damages, ensuring traffic safety on Provincial Road 35.

Speaking to Kinh te va Do thi, Deputy Head of the Urban Management Department of Soc Son district Trinh Van Duy said that, in the face of the serious deterioration of Provincial Road 35, the local government has coordinated with relevant units to temporarily repair some severely damaged locations. People's travel has improved but is not really convenient.

To ensure long-term traffic safety for people, the People's Committee of Soc Son district continues to request the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board to strictly implement the direction of the Hanoi People's Committee, speed up the progress and soon complete the project to renovate and upgrade the middle section of Highway 35 (from Km4+469 to K12+733.35).

 

The project to renovate and upgrade the middle section of Route 35 (from Km4+469 to Km12+733.35) in Soc Son district was approved by the Hanoi People's Committee in Decision No. 5570/QD-UBND dated October 28, 2014. The Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board was assigned by the city as the investor. This is an urgent public project, but the progress of implementation is very slow. The project has also had to be adjusted and extended many times but has not been completed yet.
