The Bangkok Criminal Court (Thailand) recently opened an extradition hearing for terrorist Y Quynh Bdap in the terrorist attack in Dak Lak in 2023. Regarding this, the reporter asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the next steps to handle the case at the regular press conference on October 17.
Accordingly, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that Y Quynh Bdap was the subject who directly recruited, incited and directed the terrorist attack on June 11, 2023 in Dak Lak, causing particularly serious consequences.
This subject was tried by the People's Court of Dak Lak province and sentenced to 10 years in prison for terrorism.
"The extradition of the subject to Vietnam is appropriate and aims to ensure that all criminals are prosecuted before the law and by competent authorities. Vietnam will continue to coordinate with Thai authorities to handle the case in accordance with the laws of the two countries," Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed.
In June 2023, a particularly serious terrorist attack occurred in Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes, Cu Kuin district, Dak Lak province, killing 9 people, injuring 2 others, and destroying state and public property.
Through the investigation, prosecution, and trial, the prosecution agencies have sufficient grounds to conclude that this attack was directed and assisted by Y Quynh Bdap, head of the terrorist organization Montagnards for Justice (MSFJ). This subject has a history of violating criminal law in Vietnam and has crossed the border to live abroad.
In January 2024, the People's Court of Dak Lak province sentenced Y Quynh to 10 years in prison for terrorism and the authorities issued a special wanted notice for Y Quynh Bdap.
