Ensuring safe and continuous power supply during the dry season

Việt NamViệt Nam10/05/2024

Quang Tri province is located in an area with harsh climate, especially the hot weather that often occurs severely during the dry season months, with average temperatures sometimes reaching over 40 degrees Celsius. Therefore, ensuring a continuous and stable power source and minimizing power failures is always a priority of Quang Tri Power Company (PC Quang Tri).

According to the report of PC Quang Tri in the first 4 months of 2024, the load in the province continuously increased, reaching 147.7MW, an increase of 6.6% over the same period in 2023. Starting from April 2024, Quang Tri area will enter the hot season, the temperature is expected to be higher than the same period and last longer, the maximum capacity in 2024 of Quang Tri province's power system is forecasted to peak in June, July, and August.

Therefore, to ensure continuous power supply, grid management and operation units regularly inspect the grid, periodically maintain and monitor the capacity of transformers, and clear the grid corridor to ensure the safety of people and property. While carrying out repairs and construction of grid projects, they always strive to ensure the grid return time and restore power supply as planned.

Do not carry out planned power outages during hot weather when the temperature is higher than 36 degrees Celsius. When there is work to repair, maintain, or construct power grid projects, it is necessary to carefully review the construction organization plan to arrange appropriate power outage times and ensure that the grid is returned and power supply is restored according to the announced time, absolutely not allowing the grid to be returned late, causing frustration for customers. Arrange to increase the on-duty force, prepare vehicles, materials, and spare equipment to promptly handle incidents, minimize customer power outage time, especially during holidays and at night.

During the incident handling process, there must be direction from the unit's leaders and control from specialized departments; workers must ensure health conditions, labor safety, traffic safety, especially in cases of working at height. Regularly monitor and promptly handle cases of overloading distribution transformer stations, overloading low-voltage lines/circuit breakers, heat generation at connection points/junctions... due to sudden increase in load on hot days.

Use Tableau to monitor the status of the transformer station load. In addition, monitor the load from data on DSPM, RF-Spider programs... Increase the frequency of periodic inspection of power lines and transformer stations, increase the frequency of temperature measurement at contact points, especially high-load equipment to promptly detect abnormalities and handle to prevent incidents.

Focus on ensuring safe and stable operation, limiting medium voltage grid incidents to ensure continuous power supply to customers. Actively work with pumping station owners and operators, prioritizing continuous power supply to pumping stations to serve drought and salinity prevention, contributing to ensuring production and stabilizing people's lives. Coordinate with the Customer Care Center to receive and process customers' power outage notifications, promptly troubleshoot problems, and restore power supply as soon as possible.

Vinh Linh district is a place where extreme weather events of El Nino phenomenon such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, etc. often occur, this is also one of the major difficulties of Vinh Linh Power Company in managing the power grid. Most of the land area in Vinh Linh district is used for agricultural production, aquaculture and industrial production.

Therefore, Vinh Linh Electricity prioritizes continuous power supply to pumping stations to serve drought and saltwater intrusion prevention, contributing to stabilizing people's lives and production and providing enough power for industrial production facilities in the area.

Director of Vinh Linh Electricity Phan Thanh Vinh said: “From the beginning of the year, the unit has mobilized sufficient human resources and materials to carry out the clearing of the corridor, prioritizing key routes with high load. With the motto of safety, speed and customer satisfaction, the work of clearing the corridor has been carried out urgently, ensuring progress according to the set plan.

In addition to ensuring operational safety, the unit also focuses on customer care (CSKH) directly and through EVNCPC's online CSKH channels. It also integrates instructions for customers on how to use electricity safely and economically, and proactively monitor electricity consumption indexes through the EVNCPC CSKH application.

During the peak hot season, Vinh Linh Power workers are always dedicated to checking, monitoring, and thoroughly explaining people's questions about electricity indexes and power-consuming devices, especially during peak hours; advising customers to understand the power consumption of devices, and taking measures to change the way they use them, such as: avoiding using during peak hours, turning off electrical devices when not in use, and carefully studying the features, functions, and capacity of the device to see if it meets power-saving standards or not."

Ensuring safe and continuous power supply during the dry season is a major challenge for the electricity industry. Although the issue is not new, it is a top concern for electricity customers and attracts public opinion. Therefore, PC Quang Tri always proactively deploys plans to operate the power grid safely and continuously to provide electricity with guaranteed quality, serving the lives, production and business of electricity customers.
