General To Lam was elected President.

At the 7th Session taking place this morning, May 22, the National Assembly conducted the process of electing General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, as President.

Previously, on the afternoon of May 21, the National Assembly Standing Committee presented the National Assembly with a list of nominees for the National Assembly to elect the President. The National Assembly discussed this list of nominees in the Delegation.

On the morning of May 22, the National Assembly Standing Committee reported on the explanation and reception of opinions of National Assembly deputies discussing at the Delegation on the nomination list for the National Assembly to elect the President.

Accordingly, General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, was nominated by the National Assembly to be elected as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term. After discussing and voting to approve the list of candidates for the election of the President, the National Assembly will elect the President by secret ballot.

The National Assembly Standing Committee submitted to the National Assembly a draft resolution on the election of the President for the National Assembly to discuss and vote on. With 472/473 National Assembly deputies present in favor, the resolution on the election of General To Lam as President was passed by the National Assembly.

Immediately after the announcement of the voting results to pass the Resolution, according to the provisions of the Constitution, new President To Lam took the oath of office and delivered his inaugural speech.

Under the sacred red flag with yellow star of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly and the people and voters nationwide, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam swore: Absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, to the People, to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, striving to fulfill well the tasks assigned by the Party, State and People.

After the oath-taking ceremony, President To Lam also delivered a speech before the National Assembly.

Also on May 22, the National Assembly will conduct the approval process for members of the National Defense and Security Council at the proposal of the President.

Previously, at the 9th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee held on the morning of May 16, the Central Committee gave its opinion on personnel for the 15th National Assembly to elect to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term. Specifically, the Central Committee highly agreed to introduce General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, to be elected to hold the position of President by the 15th National Assembly.
