(Dan Tri) - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Head of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, said that in the near future, the concept of early admission will no longer exist because this only benefits weak students.

This content was shared by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy at the Admissions Consulting - Career Guidance - Open Day organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education on January 5.

The program attracted more than 10,000 students from more than 120 high schools and more than 40 universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces to attend the 2025 Enrollment Fair.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy said that it is expected that from this year, the concept of early admission will be eliminated. This comes from the reason that all candidates must register their wishes on the national common system and candidates can only pass one wish.

While early admissions have many consequences like in previous admissions seasons, students who have not completed the 12th grade program have to struggle to apply to dozens of schools, not being able to study with peace of mind, while schools organize early admissions in a big way. This is costly and difficult for both candidates and training institutions.

Not to mention, early admission leads to unfairness among candidates. In reality, not all candidates can study to get international certificates, participate in competency assessment exams, etc.

The Director of the Department of Higher Education said: "The initial goal of early admission was for excellent and outstanding students. But in recent years, early admission has been beneficial for weak students. Many weak students only need an average academic record to be able to pass a certain school. Why do we have to focus on these students?", Ms. Thuy raised the question.

For talented, excellent students with high academic achievements, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy said, the Ministry of Education and Training has a direct admission policy so that students can proactively choose a suitable learning path.

The representative of the Ministry of Education and Training also emphasized that for admission based on academic records, the regulation requires that the academic results of the entire 12th grade year must be used to limit students from not concentrating in their final year of study.

According to Ms. Thuy, regarding the admission based on transcripts, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that schools must use the entire 12th grade academic results, which is to limit students from not focusing on their studies in their final year.

At this time, the Ministry of Education and Training is still seeking opinions on the Draft Regulations on University and College Admissions in 2025. The admission plan will generally remain stable but there will be adjustments to ensure the rights of candidates.

One notable point is that there will no longer be a quota allocation for each admission method. Instead, the system will consider admission based on results from high to low in all methods.

To do so, the Ministry of Education and Training requires that the admission scores and passing scores of the methods and subject combinations used for admission must be converted to a common, unified scale for each training program, industry, and group of industries.
