Batshuayi's incident with Attila the eagle. |
Despite not playing in the 27th round of the Bundesliga last weekend, the Belgian striker still appeared on the pitch after the match. He approached Attila - the club's famous golden eagle, known as the "King of the Sky" and accompanying Frankfurt since 2005.
However, Batshuayi may have gotten too close as Attila was being led around the pitch by his trainer. Suddenly, the bird flapped its wings and smacked the 31-year-old player straight in the face. Attila's trainer burst out laughing, while Batshuayi was taken aback.
"The rare incident with Attila the eagle was somewhat humorous, but clearly showed that Batshuayi probably hasn't fully connected with his new club, at least with the team mascot," The Sun described.
The incident quickly attracted attention on social networks. "The eagle must be testing Batshuayi's reflexes", "Now he has Attila's blessing", "The eagle is taking revenge for what he did to Besiktas"... were common reactions from the online community.
Batshuayi was highly anticipated when Chelsea spent £33.2 million to sign him from Marseille in 2016. Despite scoring 25 goals in 77 appearances, Batshuayi never cemented his place in the starting lineup and was loaned out to clubs like Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace.
In the January 2025 transfer window, Batshuayi joined Eintracht Frankfurt - where he has scored 2 goals in 6 matches so far.
