On April 11, Son failed to score in Tottenham's 1-1 draw with Frankfurt in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. This was the fifth consecutive match in which Son has failed to score for Spurs.
BBC quoted many comments from fans, saying that Son is showing signs of age and is no longer strong enough to plow continuously this season. An account named Sean commented: "I think Son's problem is that he is 32 years old, his physical condition is also declining. It is time for Tottenham fans to accept the fact that he cannot play at the intensity of 3-4 days/match."
A fan named Richard wrote: "I think it's time to take the captaincy away from Son and give it to Cristian Romero. Let Son take some of the pressure off."
A fan named Len commented: "He is no longer the person we used to know. For the team's results, Son should probably be benched."

Supporter Charlie said: "I think Son's speed is not as good as before, this affects his matches. I think Tottenham need to find someone who can help Son create a better influence without having to use speed."
This is not the first time Son's captaincy has been questioned at Tottenham. After Spurs were knocked out of the FA Cup and League Cup, former player Jamie Redknapp said Son must take responsibility and the coaching staff should reconsider the striker's captaincy.
Son has seven goals in the Premier League and three in the Europa League this season. On February 22, the South Korean striker had a hand in 20 goals (10 goals + 10 assists) in all competitions, for the ninth consecutive season.
