In Group A, few people thought that U17 Thailand would play so poorly. The Southeast Asian representative lost all 3 matches, scoring only 2 goals. Thailand is still considered the weakest in the group, but the way they lost is hard for many fans to accept.
Group B was the most dramatic group of this year's tournament. Until the last match, UAE, Vietnam, Japan and Australia all had a chance to advance. Vietnam led UAE until the 88th minute and lost their ticket to the World Cup when they conceded a goal near the end of the match. Similarly, Australia was very unlucky and only got 1 point against UAE and Vietnam. They beat Japan but still lost to UAE in terms of goal difference.
In Group C, Indonesia caused a shock by defeating South Korea in the first match. The team from the archipelago won all three matches, earning a full 9 points. The championship candidate South Korea struggled but still beat Yemen and advanced.
In Group D, a big shock occurred when Iran only got 1 point after 3 group stage matches, giving up World Cup tickets to Tajikistan and North Korea.
The 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup will feature 48 teams and will take place in Qatar in November 2025. The teams will be divided into four smaller pots, each with three groups. The three group winners and the best runners-up from each pot will advance to the knockout stage. These teams will compete to determine the winner and advance to the semi-finals of the tournament against the opponents from the other pot.
In other continents, some strong teams such as Ivory Coast, Senegal, Tunisia (Africa); Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Paraguay (South America); England, Belgium, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal (Europe) are all present. The Netherlands caused a shock when they were eliminated and did not participate in the World Cup.
