Exemplary Veterans - Leading the Way in Economic Development

Identifying the emulation movement of "Exemplary War Veterans" as a key task, every year, the Association of War Veterans of Bai Tranh commune has directed its branches to develop and implement plans, launch emulation movements, organize the signing of emulation covenants between units with contents, goals, and targets that are close to the characteristics of the situation and tasks of the base. In particular, closely combine regular emulation with sudden emulation in each task, linking the emulation movement of exemplary war veterans with patriotic emulation movements and campaigns launched by the locality.

Mr. Hoang Xuan Dieu, Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Bai Tranh Commune, said: "The Association of War Veterans in the commune has coordinated to propagate and mobilize union members to respond to the movement of the whole people joining hands to build a new rural area. Since then, the movements: Donating land, contributing to the construction and renovation of cultural houses, mini parks, village roads, alleys; People building and renovating houses, constructing traffic works, drainage ditches, fish ponds, embanking ponds to make courtyards... have been deployed. The Association of War Veterans, together with union members and members of socio-political organizations, have participated in building and plastering 2.5km of fences; whitewashing more than 600m of model roads, donating 10,500m2 of land of all kinds; moving 13 gates; 1,200m of fences and clearing more than 2,000 perennial trees to build roads and mini parks. At the same time, mobilize members and people to contribute money and working days to build new ones. 7 village cultural houses; pouring concrete on 2,446m2 of sidewalks; planting 238 shade trees; participating in building and renovating more than 7km of rural roads; participating in cleaning village roads and alleys; planting flowers and green fences with a total length of 3km; building 3 "War Veterans' Affection" houses.

In order to support members in economic development, the Association of War Veterans in Bai Tranh commune has proactively coordinated with functional departments to organize many training courses for cadres and members of the Association of War Veterans on restructuring crops and livestock, transferring scientific and technical advances. The Association of War Veterans established and maintained "War Veterans help each other to do good business", including 21 members developing farms, household economy, combining gardens, ponds, barns, raising livestock, poultry, raising fish, growing fruit trees, planting acacia, trading goods and services, transportation... Many families of War Veterans Association members are doing well economically, such as: Household of War Veteran Nguyen Van Hung, Association of Village 10; Household of War Veteran Nguyen Duy Vinh, Association of Village Ho; Household of War Veteran Vo Viet Luu; Chu Van Hanh, Association of Factory... Thanks to that, the lives of members' families have been improved, the proportion of well-off and rich members accounts for 83.4%...

The emulation movement “Exemplary war veterans” has developed widely throughout Nhu Xuan district, with the active participation of cadres and members of the war veterans association. Through this, many exemplary and typical individuals and groups have emerged in various fields, with many positive contributions to society. In addition to the field of economic development, enriching themselves and their homeland, cadres and members of the war veterans association have also been exemplary in charity and social security activities and set a good example for their descendants to follow.

Over the past 5 years, the Association of War Veterans at all levels in the district has coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front, departments and organizations to mobilize resources and encourage members to help each other with cash and materials worth more than 652 million VND and 1,850 working days to help eliminate 15 makeshift, dilapidated houses for members of the Association with especially difficult housing conditions. With specific actions, the number of poor households in the association has decreased from 8.1% in 2019 to 6.85% in 2024. The number of well-off and rich households has increased from 37.9% in 2019 to 44.78% in 2024. Many member households have produced and done business effectively, creating many jobs for workers, contributing to the implementation of the socio-economic development program and poverty reduction in the locality.

Mr. Luong Ngoc Tu, Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Nhu Xuan district, said: "The emulation movement has developed comprehensively in both breadth and depth, creating motivation for all levels of the association and war veteran members to strive to basically complete the tasks and emulation goals set by the association. Thanks to that, in the past 5 years, the association's organizations and affiliated members have been awarded 3 certificates of merit by the Central Association to 1 collective and 1 individual; the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province awarded 4 certificates of merit to 2 collectives and 2 individuals; the Chairman of the Provincial Association of War Veterans awarded 20 certificates of merit to 10 collectives and 10 individuals... The above awards are a great source of encouragement for the emulation movement "Exemplary war veterans", contributing to the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the district to successfully implement the Resolution of the 23rd District Party Congress".
