Along with many other localities in Nam Dan district (Nghe An), Nam Nghia commune also organizes a traditional wrestling festival at the beginning of the year. The Nam Nghia commune's Giap Thin Spring Wrestling Festival starts from the afternoon of the 3rd day of Tet to the 9th day of the first lunar month. "This year, for the first time, female athletes have registered to participate in wrestling, creating a new and attractive feature for the commune's traditional wrestling festival," said Ms. Tran Thi Tham, a cultural official of Nam Nghia commune.

A beautiful female wrestler entered the wrestling ring amid the excited cheers of the audience. Compared to male wrestlers, when entering the ring, women spend more time tying their hair and checking their clothes to avoid "revealing" moments during the match.

The women competed fiercely and threw themselves into the competition as soon as they entered the field. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (25 years old, resident of Nam Nghia commune) said: "Standing outside watching the women compete also made me excited, so I signed up to compete. Although I was a bit nervous, I just joined for fun, if I lost, that's fine, just having fun at the beginning of the year is all that matters."

The sisters rushed at each other, using leg locks and stomach hugs to quickly knock their opponents down. There were matches that ended in a stalemate due to the "tactic" of female wrestlers holding their opponents tightly and not letting go.

The two wrestlers pressed each other close, trying to push each other to the ground with determined faces.

The female wrestler who "caused a storm" in the wrestling ring on the afternoon of January 6 was Ms. Nguyen Thi Sen (27 years old, residing in Nam Hung commune, Nam Dan) when she won 3 consecutive matches. With a tall, balanced, agile body due to regular volleyball practice, Ms. Sen overwhelmed and knocked down her opponent as soon as the opening whistle sounded. Although she won 3 consecutive matches and won the prize shirt from the organizers, when challenged by an opponent, Ms. Sen still entered the ring and won convincingly amid the cheers of thousands of spectators.

"My husband pushed me into the ring," Ms. Sen humorously shared. According to this woman, her husband and the people around her encouraged and cheered her on to enter the ring to compete even though she herself had never participated in a wrestling match and had absolutely no experience. "I watched the brothers compete and learned from them. At first, I was a bit shy, but when I entered the ring and heard everyone cheering and encouraging me, I became more confident. I just wrestled randomly, there were no secrets or tactics, as long as I could push my opponent's back to the ground, that was enough," Ms. Sen said.

One special thing is that most of the female wrestlers enter the arena because they are "forced" to enter, pushed into the ring by friends and relatives. However, once in the arena, the sisters all compete with "homemade tactics" that make the audience laugh heartily.

The audience cheered excitedly for the matches between the sisters, and emotions exploded when a female wrestler knocked out her opponent.

The wrestlers who won 3 consecutive matches received awards from the organizers. According to Ms. Tran Thi Tham, although this was the first time the wrestling festival had the participation of women, the matches were all of high quality, especially with many women from neighboring communes coming to watch and compete. More importantly, the female wrestlers with their fighting spirit gave the audience joyful moments in the early spring.
