Vietnam Sports Department has new director

On April 4, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to transfer and appoint Director of the Vietnam Sports Department Dang Ha Viet to the position of Director of the Department of Science, Technology, Training and Environment.

Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Ha Viet came from and grew up in basketball. He has held many important positions in the sports industry such as Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Basketball Federation, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center, and Principal of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports.

From 2022, Mr. Dang Ha Viet was appointed as Director of the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department to replace Mr. Vuong Bich Thang (retired).

In recent times, Vietnamese sports have maintained their leading position in Southeast Asia with two consecutive times leading the overall achievements at SEA Games 31 and 32.

At the 19th Asian Games, Vietnamese sports completed the target with 3 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 19 bronze medals, ranking 21st on the overall rankings.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Vietnamese sports failed to achieve their goal as they failed to win any medals. The best result was only 4th place for shooter Trinh Thu Vinh in shooting.

Also on April 4, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to transfer and appoint Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet - chief of the ministry's office - as the new director of the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department.

Previously, Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet held the positions of Director of the Institute of Sports Science and Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training (now the Vietnam Department of Sports and Physical Training ).

In 2025, besides continental and world tournaments, Vietnamese sports have the main goal at the 33rd SEA Games taking place in December in Thailand.
