Việt NamViệt Nam07/05/2024

On the afternoon of May 7, the Dong Nai Province Department of Health informed that the results of food sample tests in the bread poisoning case at Ms. Bang's shop (No. 148/18 Tran Quang Dieu Street, Ward 2, Xuan Binh Ward, Long Khanh City) were available.

According to the Dong Nai Province Department of Health, most of the patient samples and food samples taken from the bakery were contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. In addition, some other samples were contaminated with E.coli and other bacteria.

Patient samples and food samples taken from Bang bakery in Long Khanh city were both contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

Specifically, on May 6, Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital 2 found Salmonella bacteria in the sample of patient PHM (14 years old, one of the patients in the suspected poisoning case after eating bread in Long Khanh City). On May 4, in the 3 seriously ill children, blood test results showed that they were infected with E.coli.

According to research, Salmonella bacteria are found in contaminated food and water sources. The incubation period for Salmonella infection is from 6 to 72 hours after eating, usually from 18 to 36 hours, symptoms such as: abdominal cramps, diarrhea, chills, fever. A few people also experience nausea and vomiting.

These symptoms usually last from a few days to a week. Diarrhea can last up to 10 days. In a small number of cases, serious complications can occur if the Salmonella infection spreads through the intestines, which can lead to death.

124 children were poisoned after eating bread from Bang bakery.

As reported, on April 30, Ms. Bang’s bakery (Xuan Binh Ward, Long Khanh City) sold more than 1,100 meat sandwiches to customers. By the morning of May 1, many people after eating sandwiches at Ms. Bang’s shop had symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, so they were hospitalized at Long Khanh Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Through verification, Dong Nai province authorities determined that the bakery did not have a business license and did not have a certificate of food safety eligibility.

Authorities took food samples from the bakery including: cold cuts, pickles, pork roll, processed pork, and pate and sent them to the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Public Health for testing of food safety indicators.

As of the evening of May 5, the total number of hospitalized patients was 545 cases.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that causes diarrhea, usually through food. When entering the body, Salmonella will produce toxins that damage the intestinal mucosa, leading to symptoms such as: abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea.

According to the World Health Organization, Salmonella poisoning can lead to dangerous complications such as: severe dehydration, multiple organ failure, and even death. Children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to Salmonella poisoning because their immune systems are weak.

Salmonella bacteria are commonly found in raw or undercooked meat and poultry. They can also be transmitted through unwashed fruits and vegetables or unpasteurized milk.

To prevent Salmonella poisoning, people need to pay attention to eating and drinking cooked food, especially meat, poultry, eggs and seafood; washing hands before preparing and eating; washing vegetables and fruits before eating; and preserving food properly.
