On March 31, the leader of the People's Committee of Di Linh district, Lam Dong province, said that by early this afternoon, the fire at the Gung Re landfill had been basically contained, with no risk of spreading. Although the fire had been basically contained, due to the thick amount of garbage, the fire was still smoldering inside and smoke and dust were still spreading.
At the scene, the authorities of Di Linh district are deploying 2 water pumps, with more than 20 people divided into 2 teams to continue pumping water to prevent the risk of fire re-igniting. At the same time, they are checking all areas around the landfill to promptly detect and handle any incidents that may arise.
Along with fire prevention and fighting work, the People's Committee of Di Linh district directed relevant agencies to focus on investigating and clarifying those involved in the fire to strictly handle them according to regulations.
Authorities have basically controlled the fire, there is no longer any risk of it spreading, but the column of smoke and dust from the fire is still rising tens of meters high.
Previously, on the evening of March 29, after receiving information about the fire at Gung Re landfill, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Area 3 of Lam Dong Provincial Police (located in Bao Loc city) dispatched a specialized fire truck and nearly 20 officers and soldiers to quickly approach the scene to put out the fire.
However, due to the complicated developments of the fire with a large amount of toxic smoke and gas released, it caused many difficulties in extinguishing and controlling the fire.
By the morning of March 30, the People's Committee of Di Linh district and Gung Re commune had also mobilized dozens of people from many forces to participate in supporting fire fighting. By noon of the same day, the fire was basically under control, with no risk of spreading, but the column of smoke and dust from the fire was still rising tens of meters high.
As reported by Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Gung Re landfill in Gung Re commune, Di Linh district, Lam Dong province was not only overloaded, but also caught fire, causing a column of smoke tens of meters high to cover a large area, causing serious pollution and affecting hundreds of households.
The fire broke out yesterday afternoon, March 29, and continued to spread, engulfing the entire landfill , threatening to spread to the local people’s gardens and the surrounding natural forest. The stench, burning smell, and smoke were so overwhelming that the lives of the people in Hang Hai and Hang Lang villages were severely affected.
