Romanian Ambassador to Vietnam Cristina Romila

Speaking to the Government E-newspaper ahead of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Romania, Ms. Cristina Romila emphasized that the visit will continue to promote the Prime Minister-level dialogue between Romania and Vietnam. The most recent contacts at this level took place in 2016 (official visit to Vietnam by the Romanian Prime Minister) and in 2019 (official visit to Romania by the Vietnamese Prime Minister). "We are honored that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh graduated from university in Romania. Many mutually beneficial areas will create favorable conditions for the visit to be successful and substantive. We expect new progress in bilateral legal cooperation projects and frameworks," the Ambassador said. According to Ms. Cristina Romila, the visit is expected to become an important milestone in cooperation between the two countries in various fields, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding, priorities and interests.

Deeply reaffirming the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Romania

Reviewing the important achievements that the two countries have made in recent times, the Ambassador said that the past 5 years have deeply reaffirmed the traditional friendship between the two countries, through promoting the exchange of high-level delegations and cooperation in addressing major challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, or efforts to evacuate more than 1,000 Vietnamese citizens from the conflict in Ukraine. In addition to bilateral meetings between the two Prime Ministers, Ms. Cristina Romila also mentioned a number of recent high-level meetings between Romanian President Klaus Werner Iohannis and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, which took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) (September 2023) and the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations in Brussels, Belgium (December 2022), and the phone call between the two Presidents (July 2021). "In addition to achievements in political-diplomatic dialogue, the two countries have also made progress in the field of economic cooperation, both bilaterally and at the European Union level," the Ambassador emphasized. One of Romania's important achievements in its role as President of the EU Council and EU trade policy is the signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) in June 2019. Romania was one of the first EU member states to ratify the IPA. People-to-people diplomacy between the two countries has also achieved significant positive developments after the COVID-19 pandemic. The two sides have regularly promoted cultural, academic and business exchanges. Representatives of more than 30 Romanian universities have visited Vietnam in the past two years; the famous Bucharest Symphony Orchestra will perform in Vietnam in 2022 and 2023 at the Hanoi Opera House and Da Lat. Several economic delegations have visited Vietnam over the past year, seeking new opportunities to deepen and diversify bilateral economic cooperation. The Ambassador also expressed his impression of   excellent results achieved at the 17th meeting of the Vietnam-Romania Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation held in Hanoi last November. The two sides agreed on important cooperation mechanisms in areas of mutual interest, such as trade, agriculture, plant quarantine, energy, labor, science, technology and culture. "Romania can become a gateway for Vietnamese goods to enter Europe, similarly Vietnam facilitates Romania's access to the ASEAN market. We need to effectively utilize the EVFTA to open each other's markets and attract investment in areas of mutual interest," Ms. Cristina Romila emphasized. The Ambassador shared that, in   During her tenure in Vietnam, Romania will have several important priorities, including strengthening high-level political and diplomatic contacts, diversifying economic exchanges, enhancing people-to-people contacts, building new bridges through cultural cooperation and enhancing academic exchanges. The traditional relations, the strong friendship between the two countries, and the potential of the bilateral agenda will create favorable conditions for the two countries to move forward to a promising future, Ms. Cristina Romila expressed.
