Not yet hurt but already healed

Is it true that we are "feeling hurt", suddenly too tired or too stressed?

Psychology of "self-infection" from virtual environment?

A university lecturer told us that in her class, there were some students who, although they came from poor families and had only been studying in the city for 3 years, often complained and actively attended healing classes.

Complaining about being tired but posting pictures of enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside is a manifestation of a virtual mindset, not reflecting the true psychology of someone who is facing a mental impasse and quality of life.

Since graduating and starting work, every weekend, a younger brother of mine invites a group of friends to ride their motorbikes up Hai Van Pass, choosing a nice spot to "chill".

Immediately after that, on Facebook there will be a scene of "too tired, run away from the city to find a peaceful place".

One day I sat with him and asked him if he felt tired, he replied, "It's just on Facebook. I post it for fun, to look a little fancy, but I haven't done anything meaningful, so why are you tired?"

A friend of mine told me a few years ago that he had a friend who came from a well-off family. He was good at business, inherited his family's foundation, and became very well off. One day, he suddenly brought his whole family, including his three handsome children, to a mountainous area to build a thatched house to live in.

About 4 years later, when you have experienced the "peaceful life back home", you bring your wife and children back to the city and find a way to send them to school to go back to school. You said you thought the peaceful life back home was just a scene in the movies, on Facebook. If you don't believe me, try going back to the countryside and you will see all kinds of things, not like what you see online.

Young people lack emotional management tools

Recently, healing courses have appeared online and in real life. Foreigners, mentally ill people, and the elderly are not mentioned. But I see many young people actively participating in these courses.

But it is worth mentioning that studying is not free, the cost of such a program is not small. Meanwhile, there are young people who are not sick or tired, even unemployed, but find themselves hurt and seek healing courses.

How effective the healing is is unclear, but it can be seen that this is a manifestation of liking to live according to trends, perceiving oneself as sick and injured when in reality there is none.

While what young people often see is enthusiasm, a spirit of striving to overcome, creativity, exploration and a burning desire to establish a career, there are young people who think they are tired and want to withdraw. Then they see themselves as having a mental illness that needs to be healed.

In my opinion, this is not only a negative trend, but also shows a passive, weak-willed, hedonistic and overly virtual lifestyle, which does not at all reflect the real life of the majority of active young people, especially young people with the will to overcome their circumstances.

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online , Dr. Le Thi Lam - lecturer of the Department of Psychology and Education at the University of Education, Da Nang University - said that under the pressure of studying, life, and work, some young people today, instead of courageously overcoming it, tend to choose to give up and escape. Trends such as leaving the city to return to the countryside, home schooling, healing... are increasingly being pursued by many people.

Obviously, choosing to face challenges and overcome them with courage and willpower is much easier than giving up.

According to Ms. Lam, new trends mostly come from social networks, but due to lack of experience, young people easily imitate and think that doing so will help them find mental balance.

This is like a psychological defense mechanism, avoiding challenges, without thinking deeply about the fundamental value of life: that all successes do not come easily. And what is easy will often not create positive results.

From a certain perspective, recent phenomena also show that the mental health of young people today is an issue that needs attention.

Therefore, Dr. Lam emphasized that providing them with tools to develop, creating role models for young people to overcome challenges, promoting healthy lifestyles, and stress management skills so that young people know how to maintain social relationships is essential.

Should be psychologically counseled

According to psychotherapist Nguyen Hong Bach, the current trend of self-healing among young people is also considered a positive trend as people are increasingly concerned about psychological and mental problems. However, we do not always correctly perceive the psychological problems we are facing.

In every person's life, there are times when psychological trauma is likely to occur.

The first is when psychological trauma from childhood to adolescence cannot be resolved, these are extremely severe traumas.

The second is adolescent trauma when starting work, being pressured by family, life...

Third is middle age, pre-retirement trauma when preparing to leave work, colleagues, and familiar environment.

The fourth is the trauma of old age, when preparing to go to the other world.

" Young people need to feel the problem they are facing. When they feel their mood is different, they need to think about "healing".

In case you clearly understand the problem you are facing, for example, it is just stress at work, worries about relationships,... but you can still control it, you can choose to rest, temporarily let go of the pressure to "heal" yourself, and conquer yourself.

However, when you have problems such as persistent insomnia, giving up, being depressed, having no purpose in life, etc., these are the first signs of depression, which need to be "healed".

At this time, young people need to consult a psychologist or psychiatrist to understand the level of trauma they are experiencing. The sooner intervention, the sooner they can return to their normal lives, " Dr. Bach shared.

In particular, Dr. Bach recommends that young people should not search for information online to apply to themselves, because unverified information can cause you to fall into a state of higher psychological disorder.
