President Vo Van Thuong meets with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin

At the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to President Putin. The two leaders expressed their delight at the good development of the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation on the basis of high political trust, extensive cooperation, and increasingly substantive results.

President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that Vietnam always remembers the support and assistance that the people of the Russian Federation have given Vietnam in the past cause of national construction and defense as well as in the current cause of national development. The President emphasized that, implementing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification, Vietnam always considers the Russian Federation as one of the top important partners; wishes to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership with the Russian Federation in all fields for the benefit of the people of each country, for the prosperity of the two nations.

At the meeting, the two leaders expressed their delight at the important results in bilateral cooperation in recent times, such as maintaining the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels, promoting cooperation in the fields of economy - trade, defense - security, science - technology, education - training, energy, and people-to-people exchange. The two sides maintained contact, exchanges and organized high-level delegations between the two countries and the two Parties; including phone calls between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Putin, the visit to Vietnam by Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev and most recently the visit by Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin.

The President highly appreciated and thanked President Putin and the government and local authorities in the Russian Federation for supporting the construction of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Saint Petersburg; he said that this is a symbol of special significance in the relationship between the two countries on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to the Russian Federation.

The President hoped that the Russian Federation would continue to provide scholarships for Vietnamese students to study and enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges. The President thanked and requested that the leaders and authorities of the Russian Federation continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, work and study stably and long-term in the Russian Federation.

President Vladimir Putin expressed his pleasure at meeting President Vo Van Thuong and respectfully sent greetings and regards to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior leaders of Vietnam. President Putin affirmed that Vietnam is one of the most important partners of the Russian Federation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Expressing satisfaction with the good development of relations and the closeness between the peoples of the two countries, President Putin said that 2024 will mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Fundamental Principles of Friendly Relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (1994-2024). President Putin respectfully invited President Vo Van Thuong to visit the Russian Federation at an appropriate time.

The two leaders agreed that there is still much potential and room for the two countries' relations to develop more strongly in the future. President Putin agreed with the opinions and assessments of President Vo Van Thuong, especially on major directions and measures to promote relations between the two countries in the coming time, such as: Continuing to enhance mutual understanding and political trust through visits and exchanges at high and all levels; improving the effectiveness and expanding cooperation in economics - trade, security - defense, science - technology, culture - education, energy and other fields according to agreements between the two sides; promoting bilateral and multilateral trade and investment cooperation mechanisms and frameworks; including the mechanism of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic - Trade and Scientific - Technical Cooperation, the Vietnam - Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement; strengthening cooperation between ministries, branches and localities of the two countries.

At the meeting, the two leaders also exchanged and shared their assessments of a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern.

On this occasion, President Vo Van Thuong respectfully invited President Putin to visit Vietnam soon. President Putin happily accepted the invitation.
